New Tires for 80s Fuji Absolute

Hey, I just got an 86 Fuji Absolute, and the tires are completely dry-rotted. I want to buy new tires and tubes, but I don't know if there are any specs I'm not aware of that I need to know about before buying. Obviously I don't want to buy tires that will end up not fitting the bike.

Anyway, I was going to pick these up: https://www.biketiresdirect.com/produ...inch-road-tire
They're 27 1/8", like my current tires, but I just want to check in and make sure they are the appropriate tires. Also, if anyone wants to suggest another brand of tire I would be glad to hear feedback.

Thanks!

I don't have experience with that tire but you're not going to find much for $less. The reviews seem good for what they're worth, bettter than knowing nothing about them. What will they be used for, commuting, touring? Check out the schwalbe tires site, they are not cheap but highly regarded(by most) and there is good info regarding sizing.

good luck, if you buy the vittoria post what your opinion is of them,

Brian

I can't recommend any tire brands, I'm not that knowledgeable. I'm just posting a caveat that I learned the hard way: if you have straight-walled rims, be careful when inflating them, and don't take them to 100psi. Of course this is moot if your Fuji has hook-edge rims on it.

Picture of the new bike, please?

Welcome to the board.

I haven't used Vittoria tires either, but I have used these and kinda like 'em:

Just an alternative to consider...

The 27 inch tire of choice around here is the Panaracer Paselas. I also like the Nashbar Prima Plus (when they are on sale).

If you want to know a lot more about tires, visit the Sheldon Brown site. Lots of good info there.

Nashbar had the Paselas on sale for about a year for $14.99. No more.

My favorite on line source anymore is Jensen. Free shipping for orders of $50 or more, and they price match with just about anybody (Amazon, Niagara, Nashbar, etc). In fact, when Nashbar had the Paselas on sale, I just bought them from Jensen instead.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I'll probably pick up the Pasela TGs, since they're on sale at $25 a pop.

The TGs are a little heavier, but I think you'll like them.

Happy Trails...
