I'm doing the 1-day Ride Across Wisconsin, same day.
hodgykins will be there, and maybe nomadmax
There are two others, so we have 4 pretty solidly set.
Which means we only pull about 56 miles each.

One 9-week stretch:
RAIL No. 160 or so
RAIL So 160 or so
RAIN 160 or so
RAW 225.
MS 2x100 Sat/Sun

Plus at least 5 other centuries, weather permitting. Or death declining....
Vino Fondo 104
Horsey Hundred (100/75 Sat/Sun)
(Pizza Ride 50 the next day, back in St. Louis).
Giro Della Montagna 104
3 Stooges 100
Tour de Corn 100
Ride the Rivers 109
Appleknocker 117
Hotter'n Hell 100
Tour de Tucson 100
Sprockets for Spring 100
Ride for Heroes 100
CF 100
Hilly Hundred 53/53

A little more endurance this year, but pretty sure I'll get the elevation stuff in.
I no longer feel a need to add extra miles to reach a certain amount.
I will also need to find time in June to get 1,000 miles in for the Great Cycling Challenge.

Am I going to have to do the DD on a vintage bike all by myself?

If so, maybe I should just go to Italy for a few weeks instead...

I'm thinking of signing up for TOMRV. I just signed up for TOMRV. By all accounts that's a well run ride and it has enough hills to keep pretty much everyone happy here except maybe RobbieTunes .
I've been doing TOMRV for more than a couple of decades. Like SW Wisconsin, there is a good mix of hills and scenery. Heck... it does cross over into Wisconsin briefly!

My preference is for the short option... about 75 miles on Saturday and 55(?) on Sunday. The weather is the big variable, and on years when it is hot/windy/rainy, it's nice to not have to battle with the hills and the weather all day.
I tend to plan for bad weather and ride a bike with fenders and a bag big enough to carry rain gear, arm warmers, leg warmers sun screen, etc.

a couple of photos, just in case anyone is curious...

Steve in Peoria, but grew up just a bit south of Dubuque

Cool, I'm doing the short as well on a C&V bike. Definitely bringing some gear as well as well. I'm hoping to have my Mercier 300 done by then and set up for hill climbing.

I grew up in New Orleans and I always enjoy doing rides in and around the Mississippi River.

That may fit into my plans.
I'm looking at RAIL North (Moline to Chicago)
I'm looking at RAIL South (St. Louis to Vincennes)
Both are 1-day, but about the same mileage as TOMRV's 2 days.
Travel and logistics on the RAILS can be time-consuming and expensive.
The idea of coming back after a sleepover is pretty cool.
I like the turnaround/dorm stay, too.

This might be old news;

"In 2019, Race Day Events purchased the assets of Dairyland Dare and 2020 will be the first year the race will be under this new management. Dairyland Dare is an addition the expansive list of endurance events on the Race Day Events calendar. They are known for their production of Horribly Hilly Hundreds One-Day Challenge Ride, an event owned by the Friends of Blue Mounds State Park as well as the Fitchburg Festival of Speed. Additionally they have a hand in several other rides such as the Scenic Shore Bike Tour and the Bike MS Toyota Best Dam Bike Tour.

Here's an example of what others have to say about their experience with Race Day Events:

"Race Day Events has been tantamount to the success of this event for our non-profit organization! With confidence, we are able to hand over the myriad of details related to producing the event, including road and village permits, merchandising, food and snack procurement, the website and other social media. Their expertise, flexibility, and diligence in planning and supporting the Horribly Hilly Hundreds is outstanding!"

Probably out as well. If I do anything longish this summer it will probably be in Michigan.

An email turned up from the DD folks

Hello,

Due to the uncertainty of this summer due to COVID-19, and the current restrictions, we are forced to alter what we can offer for the 2020 Dairyland Dare. We still want to offer our participants and our community of cyclists an opportunity to ride and soak up the camaraderie we're all craving right now.

*To make this altered event happen, we need a minimum of 300 registrants, which is why we are asking for your help! Please help us gauge interest by taking our survey!

**A decision will be made by July 15 once we gauge the feedback from this survey, as well as work with the local municipalities.

Sincerely,

The Dairyland Dare Team

Not in.

Spent last weekend on many of the Dare roads, with iab , hodgykins , ldmataya , nomadmax , Chrome Molly , a "new guy," my brother-in-law, and my girlfriend.

The Don Q Inn was great, cheese was in season, and the scenery excellent.

That sounds like fun! I hope y'all are well (probably have to be to handle those climbs). I spent last weekend doing some of the dirt roads around Lake Pepin (which involve those hill thingys), testing my latest bikepacking build- Jones frame with Rohloff hub and belt drive.

My whole lotta pain did include bonking, and lucky me, an additional souvenir.

in my email this morning

2020 Dairyland Dare Cancelled

Dear 2020 Dairyland Dare participant,

Although Wisconsin is starting to reopen, we are still living in a time of uncertainty. We have been working diligently to determine how to effectively proceed with hosting the Dairyland Dare in a safe manner for our participants, staff, volunteers and spectators. Through working with the City of Dodgeville, Iowa County, and the Iowa County Health Department, and Wisconsin recently experiencing an increase in cases, we feel it would be irresponsible of us to proceed with the ride in 2020. As we have all witnessed, these guidelines and recommendations are continually evolving, and the future is still so unclear. With this, we are deeply saddened to be announcing the cancellation of the 2020 Dairyland Dare. As our first year managing this event, we had such excitement in bringing you all an amazing ride. We understand the past years were rough, and now having a canceled event in 2019 due to mismanagement, and now in 2020 due to an unforeseen pandemic, we truly hope you will give us a shot in 2021.

This is not the news we want to be sharing with all of you as we know so many of you want to be out there riding - and trust us, we do too! We empathize with your disappointment and we are immensely grateful for your patience and support over the past few months. We understand that no option we provide works for everyone. We ask for your understanding during these critical times for our organization. But for now, it is important that we are prioritizing the safety of all participants, staff, volunteers and spectators, along with the cities, towns, and counties we are traveling through.

As a registered participant, you have the option to defer your Dairyland Dare registration entry to 2021 or to donate your registration fee. Your donation will be used to provide front line workers a free entry to next year's Dairyland Dare. Please make your selection at the link provided below. Please note, you will not receive an immediate confirmation email. Selection deadline is July 24, 2020 12 AM CST.If you do not make a selection by that date, you will automatically be deferred to 2021.

If you ordered merchandise, you will receive a full refund for your purchased items. We plan to use the same designs/items in 2021, so please join us! All registered participants will receive a 15% coupon when the 2021 registration opens via email. We thank you for hanging with us through a difficult year and we hope that you join us in 2021!

In addition, our friends at our friends at Velocity Multi-Sport Cycling would like to offer a special promotion to all registered participants! Bring proof of registration to Velocity Multi-Sport Cycling and receive a pre-event tune up at a 50% discount! Normally $50, that's only $25! These are by appointment ONLY, no walk-ins allowed. Offer is valid through July 24th, 2021.

Stay healthy and safe and keep riding! We hope to see you all again soon!

Sincerely,

Race Day Events
