Friday night meal:

Mineral Point Volunteer Fire Dept. 214 Doty St, Mineral Point WI 53565.

1-BYOB, there will be coolers and ice to keep things cold.
2-Park in the parking lot at least 1 row away, do not block the doors.
3-6:30 until...
4-Ride your bike if you want.
5-There will not be name tags. Nope. You have to talk to people to find out who they are.

That's a nice word for it.

Busy today, working and then loading up.
Need to pick up card stock and print bike cards.
Load the Dare gear for the pavilion
Load 1-2 bikes, keep room for the bike I'm picking up on Chicago
Load tools and riding gear, pick my route.
Get some sleep.

Going radio silent. I may touch back here one more time today.

Robbie

Nah. At 67, I know my limits, and 150K is plenty for one day.

Same here.

Detouring to meet friends at UW Madison for lunch, but checking into Mineral Point hotel about 3.

Garden level, with patio.

I'll have an extra beer or three in the cooler if anyone should happen by.

Delays! Early flight out of DC canceled, now will get in to Mineral Point around 6:30, depending on traffic out of Madison and, well, whatever fresh Hell the Chicago airport throws at me.

Darryl, sent you a PM re bike stand. Hopefully will see everyone at dinner tonight.

That could be an interesting twist on things, a challenge of sorts, buy a used bike for cheap on the way to an event and then ride that bike in the event with as little added work or parts as needed except for safety issues.

I will show my wife the ride reports as well as any non-rider activities in the area to see if I can finally manage to get to one of these events. Maybe I’ll have to buy a vintage bike near Seattle and bring it back to Wisconsin with the intent of riding it in The Dare next year.

Have fun this weekend out there, ride well, and if you puke then aim well as well.

I brought an extra bike if anyone needs one.

Just arrived at the Mineral Point Hotel.

It’s all top shelf, what a charming town!

Wow, that was difficult.
Nice riding all day with Idtmataya, though!

Gomango, did you wind up riding or fishing today?

I started later than I wanted to. My friends came down from Madison and stayed at Mineral Point Hotel as well. I didn’t start until almost 7 am. Met three nice couples from Iowa and we gave each other encouragement. I rode until noon and then went fishing.

The route was very tough I thought. On turn #16, the climb up “W” was soul sucking. I think I managed to eek out about 35 miles all told which was fine considering my late start.

In addition, we ended up catching Brown trout at all of our locations. It pays to have a local guide.

This morning we are doing a rail trail ride starting in New Glarus. I believe it’s called the Sugar River Trail. Bound to be flatter than these hills near Mineral Pount.

Again, so nice to meet everyone the other night. Robbie, thanks again for the arrangements.

Ride Report

Like Doc, so eloquently mentioned, "That was difficult" Compared the ride to last year, as expected, the route changed. It was similar and most importantly very scenic and well thought out. We rolled out, mostly, at 6:45. We took a CV picture, so I am sure that will be posted soon. It was all up hill from there! Robbie and I were running into each other all day, as we were hell bent on the 200. This would be my 3rd year in a row attacking the 200. I felt great, found my pace and just kept going. Robbie would ride well in front of me, but we would tend to meet back up at every "rest stop". As in years past, the weakest link of this ride is poorly supplied rest stops. Not enough food (carbs & proteins), most had no electrolyte drinks, no Coke (caffeine). Rob, I am sure will tell of his misfortune, but I did not complete my 200 task either. I got to 107, started climbing a not so challenging hill, got about 1/2 up and my legs just stopped. No cramps, nothing, just out of gas, so to speak. Got off the bike, looked down the hill and saw a lovely shady spot under a tree. Got back on, rolled down the hill, parked my bike against the tree and called SAG. My day was done 11 miles short of my goal. Honestly, I was spent, I don't think I could have even limped through it by walking the last few climbs. I was over heated, my sciatica was screaming at me, but really I was just done. Too tired to be disappointed, and happy my lovely wife did not have to wait for me any longer, and SAG gets you to a ice cold Lake Louie Warped Speed much quicker. I was the last 200 on the course, and only 1 rider remained who did the 300. Met his cheer crew they were fun to chat with. Best of all made it to Robbie's sis house, just in time. Got to chat to Doc, Brian, Pete, Robbie, enjoy a brat and Cap Amber. Nice way to end another amazing adventure in Wisconsin's Driftless Area.

Hodgykins signing out!
