Pretty reasonable opening bid, if so.

Yes, the real thing for sure. It would be nice to see some lug details, especially the seat lug. It could be an employee bike without a number, or a later contract build...

Looks real and sounds real from the description of the seller.
Will need a very good cleaning though to see what condition it's really in. The components looks correct/original, except for the mentioned pedals and brakes. The saddle must be a Unicanitor. Be prepared to encounter worn out components that might not be usable anymore with a bike this age, so make sure you get a good idea of their condition as you might be mostly paying for just the frameset if everything else is really beat up. Most likely had Campy conical nut skewers orginally which was a favorite thing to combine with the Phil Wood hubs back then but someone must have took those away and replaced them with the so-called "cheap Japanese" ones. They might still be good quality though. Without finding more about the bike's condition (watch out for any major frame rust that might not be visible in the pics.), I'd be really careful about bidding it up much higher than the $500 starting

No serial number is uncommon, but not unprecedented. That written, once in a while a serial number gets filled with brass from a down tube repair. Not saying that is the case here, but better detail images of the bottom bracket (which appears of the investment cast type) and down tube head lug would clear things up a lot. I think this bike was offered recently and did not get a bid. I think the paint is marginal, probably due to use, neglect and the bikes from late '77 to '79 suffer in this dept. often it appears.
