While he works in steel, Dave is still a practical modernist. I don't recall seeing any Kirk's with threaded stems. There may be one out there, but in the short discussion we had about stems, his view was that especially for a custom sized frame where stem height should not need to be adjusted, the the functionality, strength and weight of threadless outweigh the esthetic argument for a quill stem. I like old-school threaded stems, my late 80's Tommasini has a beautiful Nitto stem on it, but I'm also used to the threadless on my Seven, so it doesn't bother me. I think once I cut the steerer down to final size, it won't be as noticeable either.
