Cool.

Some people call Colners "budget Colnagos", but one look at that seatlug shows there was a good amount of attention put into this frame. They're fine frames in their own right.

I am looking forward to the completed build and subsequent ride report.

Question for all you wise folk:

The brake mounting hole on the Colner's rear bridge is almost exactly the right size for a recessed nut (the front went on with no problems), except for 2 small flattish sections (in the hole in the frame itself), at 12 and 6 o'clock. Do I file matching sections on the recessed nut to make it fit?

If so, I'll then have to twirl the caliper on, I imagine, because the recessed nut will wind up non-rotatable. I've never encountered this before.

^ That's interesting - never heard of that before. And, yes - it would seem you'd need to spin the caliper vice the bolt. Maybe Jim has an idea?

You could Drew it with a Dremel, I suppose...

I did this recently to match a standard brake nut to a reynolds ouzo pro fork (which used a dumb proprietary nut. I wrapped some sandpaper around the nut with and held it with 2 fingers on one hand and with the other hand I inserted the appropriate allen wrench and rotated it. I constantly checked until it slipped in. If it's not a drastic change, that's what I would do.

Post a photo. It sounds as if the back of the bridge has been nicked up a bit. Wouldn't make sense if the front is nutted.

The front is recessed. The rear appears to also be recessed, just has two flat areas that prevent the nut from going in. If they weren't there, it seems that a normal recessed nut would slide right in. I think maybe the best thing is to use a round file on the frame?

I would use a round file on the frame. It shouldn't take much and will solve the issue forever.

A photo is definitely worth a thousand words in this case - the hole just looks to have been squashed a little at some point in the frame's life. A round file or Dremel on low-speed with the smaller of the two available sanding barrels will do the trick.

Worked very well; both brakes are now installed and looks like a package from Ribble awaits me at the post office with the last few things (hopefully) that I need. I'll pick it up at lunch time tomorrow along with some cables from the LBS. With any luck this bike will be rideable before the end of the week!

Atta girl

Bike is looking great - seems as though she'll be ready for a test-ride by the weekend. I only wish I could say the same of either of my recent projects!

Drillium tip: try your hand on a beater part and you won't care if you goof here and there while you practice. Practice makes perfect, so learning on old junk is best!

^ For sure.

I am calling it quits for tonight but only have shifting and final brake adjustments to take care of tomorrow, so who knows, maybe I'll be riding in 24 hrs

Finished!

Except for wrapping the bars, this bike is complete. Everything is adjusted; I love the shifting. My Merckx is due for a thorough going-over if it wants to keep the #1 spot

Pictures tomorrow. Going out for a spin around the block right now so I can wrap the bars and truly call it done.

What kinda tape is on that mint Peugeot?

Be sure to use a chain keeper on that 1x7. The chain will drop if you ride hard / when you least expect it. Paul will do one in polished silver if you ask nicely.
