Gitane ALAN Lugged Alluminum Frame ... ?

Hi there! I have come across a Gitane ALAN Lugged aluminum frame and was wondering if anyone knows whether it can be un-glued, re-gut, and re-glued. Thank you!

I suppose if its for looks only, anythings possible. Otherwise, with the rather short finite lifespan of aluminum, I doubt you would want to put the expense into it and make it a rider.

What you want to do is possible, but impractical. The tubes would have to cut at the lugs, then the tubing reamed out of the lugs. The tubes would then have to be cut to proper length and milled, assuming what is left is long enough. Then, if you could get the proper glue, you would have to construct a jig to hold everything in proper alignment and have a large enough oven to accept the frame and jig, so that the adhesive could be cured.

I did hear of Alan repairs being quite practical but not at home. Alan still use this method of manufacture on one frame:

Maybe if you ask Alan US distributors:

The epoxy can be debonded, without going through all that. Harry Havnooian in the US use to, and may still do repairs on bonded frames. He even sold his own bonded frames.

Why does it need to be re bonded?

The poster wants to recut the the tubes and change the size or geometry.Simple concept, being a lugged and glued frame, but difficult execution.
