Could use some help figuring out what cassette I could get for a 7spd setup

Hello all,

I have this hub & wheel setup,

http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=258676

I'm looking to put on a 7spd cassette but I'm not really sure what I'm suppose to be looking for. My bike is setup with a 7spd shifter on the downtube. The hub is a Dura Ace hub and a Mavic CD 4 clincher wheel.

Any and all help is generously appreciated and most welcomed.

That hub uses a freewheel, not a cassette.

Brian is correct: the hub pictured requires a spin-on freewheel. Your choice of freewheel depends to some extent on the model year of the bike's shifting components.

The components are for the most part Dura Ace 7400 components. That includes the indexed down tube shifters and the derailleur. I can take pics if needed.

Sadly I'm not really up on what seems to be the "go-to" items most riders are going for. Is Sunrace considered a selection by most or a good majority?

IRD is probably going to be your best bet, unless you can find a NOS Shimano.

If your bike has a short cage RD, a 13-28 freewheel would be a good choice for all-purpose riding.
SunRace works okay, IRD might be better.

Just don't put a cheap Shimano Tourney on it... They're heavy crap. I've used the SunRace pictured below on an old Bianchi and it worked well, was lighter than the cheap Shimano freewheel and had much better construction as well...

Others have mentioned IRD - I haven't personally used them so can't comment... But I understand they're made fairly nice...

On my bike I'm running a similar setup, it's all Shimano 600 tricolor minus the freewheel which is Shimano Drua-ace with 7spd indexed DT shifters. If you can find something nicely used you would probably be better off than anything new. Search MF-7400 on eBay, there is one on there right now.

EDIT: Setup shifts really well, haven't had any problems with it at all.

Thanks for the tip Josh, it has been noted. I'll probably get something when I have a chance to track it down.

Thanks for the help from everyone that responded. I went ahead and got a Sunrace 13-28. Just needed to get this bike on the road since my go-to bike is on the mend. I forgot to mention that this wasn't a go-to bike but needed to get it rolling.

I wish everyone the best and be safe.
