Thanks. It's actually what's called a "chameleon" finish, so depending on the light it changes to a dark blue.

Np, glad they helped you out. Surly seems cool, I wouldn't mind getting a crosscheck some day.

I also have a front suspension on mine and it's shot (?). I thought the LHT would work. Well, ... folks here were
kind enough to point out the bit about needing suspension corrected ... so, I contacted Surley and I was pointed
in the direction of the "Troll" front forks. Basically the same as your "Big Dummy" forks, just a few grams lighter.
To me, the weight difference doesn't make any difference and I don't know if one is less expensive then the other ...
Just thought I'd mention that, with Surley there is more than one choice.

Yup, you're right, some of us aren't that computer savvy ...
Also some forums have a limit to how many you can post and
after that limit will drop off the oldest attachment, then the next
and so on .....

Thanks for the suggestion Hank. I looked a the specs for the "Troll" and it is suspension corrected for 100mm of travel and I need mine a little closer to 80mm. Did you end up getting the "Troll"?

Yup, it should be here any day now . The Mag-21 that was on mine was an 80mm shock as well . Yeah, the
"Troll" is said to be corrected for a 100mm shock and so is the "Big Dummy". When you compare them on the
Surly webpage you'll see that the only difference between the 2 is a few grams of weight everything else is
the same, other then the names. I won't try to tell you which to buy ... just informing that there is always an
option, even with the same company. Happy huntin' it's 53.7485% of the fun .

I emailed Surly and the rep said the "Big Dummy" was corrected for 80mm. But that doesn't make sense because as you said the specs are the same as the "Troll". Let me know how yours handles with the "Troll" and I just might buy the same one!

Hello, New Guy here! I love the bikes in this thread. Here's a couple pic's of my '92 lugged Trek 930 with a early version Origin 8 Gary Bar that I reamed the ends out to accept bar end shifters.

Nice!
What stem is that?
What's the metallic clamp thingy on the top tube?

Thanks! The stem is branded Terry made by SR I think, I found it in the junk bin at my favorite bike shop. The silver thing is to protect the top tube from the handlebar if it whips around. I made it out of some thin stainless steel with foam tape on the inside.

I had to do the same thing on my Trek 970. You can barely see it though - I used clear Gorilla tape, wrapped several times around to provide cushioning.

Wow, cool. It looks clean. Like an S&S coupler without the separation.

Put the stem extender on and went back to the 120mm plus 7 stem. Bar end shifters are installed and shifting great. Next I need to hook up brakes.

So, ... how does the fit feel now? Where do you intend to keep your hands the majority of the time when riding?

Ok here's my attemp at this drop bar mountain bike thing. Really like the bikes in this thread. Saw this wahoo yesterday on cl xl frame for a good price. Got it sorta set up from random parts. Long way to go, but it felt comfortable on a short ride.

I will probably stay up on the hoods most the time. Thats where I tend to be on a road bike. I may end up switching to the other stem I bought to get the bars a little higher. Going to give this a try first.

Sounds like you have a plan. Please keep us in the loop and let us know how it works for you.

Very good lookin' job you did there. I especially like the bar end protector you devised

Nice looking bike, Kdogbikes, but wow! that's some reach you've got going! How does the steering feel?
