Comparing two PX-10 frames.

I have these two frames with forks. I I was taking some measurements and found some differences many of you may find interesting.

I think the white one is a bit earlier, perhaps 73 or so?. Cool Pivo handlebars, simplex prestige shifting, Stronglight 93 (with bevel at pedal boss) and steel SLJ seat pillar. I think the hubs were Normandy red label. The brakes had been changed out. 120 spacing 26.6 post, angled 531 transfer. (huge crimp in seat tube OUCH)

The blue one, assumed to be the same size seems to be a bit later. Perhaps a '77 or so (I think the rear derailleur was marked 78). Later model 93 cranks, Mafac Competition brakes and Mallard 700 wheelset and Peugeot branded stem.

I set the frames next to each other and noticed they were different. No surprise there. I started taking a few measurements (not too sophisticated method) anyway take a look at the pics.

BB shells. You can clearly see different pieces were used. Both frames have brass tags BTW.

Rear drops (simplex) are are the same height with the fork drops touching the ground. Same chain stay length and BB drop (distance below wheel axle center)

Whoops, things are changin'! We have a 72 seat angle and a 73 on the other. Depending on saddle height, you might get 25mm of difference from one degree of seat tube angle difference.

Now this is where things get interesting.

The white one has a 5mm longer wheel base. I am not reading a lot into this because wheelbase will vary due to manufacturing tolerance of either the fork, the headset (they both are crunchy) or the frame.

I hope I still have your attention. BAM!

The head angles are different as are.... wait, remember the seat tube angles are different so... what are the top tube lengths?

The blue one has a 535mm top tube measured on centers. I measured it several times. It's right between a 53 and a 54.

Even though the WB is within 5mm the geometry of the frames is completely different. I didn't use a frame fixture and could only use comparative measurements for the angle dimensions so consider them guess work.

I found a 57 (my size) in France that I want to get that has a crazy steep head angle and fancy lugs (white) it would be cool to find a blue 57 with the standard 73 HA (if that is what it is) since I have build kits from both versions.

I am pretty sure these may be U0-8 however!

I remember a discussion here recently that the post bike-boom PX-10's were tightened up for the US market.
