Picked up a 1984 Panasonic Team

...for my daughter. After riding mom's Trek Elance, she figured out that the oldies are where it's at. I pounced on a craigslist sale for $100. It's been sitting in a (finished) basement for 20 years, needs a tune-up and the paint is peeling off the chromed fork, but otherwise, it's great. Interesting tidbit - it seems that the chainstays are entirely chromed.

Hey, what's with the Shimano Z-series derailleurs? Anyone know anything about them? I've never heard of them before but I'm assuming they have to be decent to be on a pretty decent bike. Hope to add photos tomorrow.

Can't wait for the pics. They are very nice bikes, especially for $100!

As for Shimano Z, I can't help you...

That's what I paid for my DX-3000 and I thought I did really well. It should be a great riding bike - she's in for a treat. Pics please!

Nice score! I believe the Z-series derailleurs were a bunch of models that covered shimano's mid-range offerings for several years. The actual model number may narrow down a bit more where it sat within that range. They came on my Miyata 210 stock and I upgraded most of the parts using an extra deore lx group I had, but the rear derailleur works so well that I decided to leave it for the time being.

Looks like they were 'a lower priced alternative to XT", https://mombat.org/Shimano.htm
