The Madison Family

Not really C&V, but retro inspired -- the reintroduced Schwinn Madison. I got my 2007 in early 2008 and have probably put 7,000 miles on it. It's a great, fun, quick bike that makes for a hammering workout. The construction and components are no big deal, but it is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

My sons also like my Madison, so when it came to building a campus bike for my youngest, he wanted a Madison. I managed to get a great deal on a frame from the Bay. Then a 2008 showed up for a good price on CL, which I picked up to cannibalize for wheels and brakes. But, let no frame go unadorned, so I rebuilt the 2008 with single speed only wheels and other parts I had around.

So here is the Madison Family -- my 2007, far left, size M; my son's 2007, far right, size XL, and the 2008 in the middle, size L.

There's always a black sheep in the family. In this case it would be the Schwinn Cutter, a step down from the Maddy. Here is my 2009. It started out with just a freewheel, but I built a rear wheel with a flip-flop hub and rode it as a fixed gear ever since.
