1973 schwinn super sport How to sell?

hello, this is my first time posting here, but I've this forum for research a number of times. Anyway, I bought a bike on craigslist and the guy threw in this one (he said he just wanted it out of his garage). It's a red 1973 schwinn super sport in really nice condition. It seems to have all original components as far as I could figure out, really heavy one piece crank and a solid steel kickstand. I cleaned it up a bit and it looks great! (I'll post pics as soon as I find a camera)

I'd like to sell it, but I'm not sure how to go about it. How much should I ask for it? would it be better to sell on craigslist or ebay or some other vendor. Any help at all would be appreciated, thanks!

Likely this thread will get moved to the Appraisals forum, but...

Check Ebay and other sites to see what a bike like yours, in the similar condition, sells for. Adjust your price up or down appropriately.

Do you have any experience as a seller on ebay (preferably with pristine feedback as a seller, with some bikes in the mix)? Do you have the ability to carefully package and ship bikes at a reasonable (low) price? (Local pickup only = value graveyard on ebay). How are your marketing skills? Ebay is the land of variance and getting anything like full value is a lot of work.

Perfect feedback as a buyer on ebay is meaningless, as sellers cannot give buyers negative feedback.

That leaves Craigs List. Craigs List also takes marketing skills, but you don't have to pack and ship your bike. And C/L is all local, so it depends where you live. And be prepared to get scammers and flaky buyers in the mix (hey, its free.)

Whichever way you go, you need a camera and some great pics.

I've also used re-cycle pretty successfully. I guess it sort of depends if you're located in one of their supported cities though.

I'm in Peoria Illinois, about two hours from chicago. it's a small city so there isn't a whole lot of a bike culture.

ebay looks
I've never used ebay before, this is my first time trying to sell a bike. I'll probably go with craigslist then.
Ebay seems to be an incredibly mixed basket, anywhere from $75 to $300.
I know it's hard to judge without pictures, but do you think I would be able to get 100 for it?

That's unfortunately not the original saddle. That bike originally came with a Brooks B15, which in good condition can sell for $75 or more all by itself. If you post some pictures and list details like the serial number on the headtube we can give you more accurate feedback.

Just recently sold one on CL, worked out for me. Heed the scam warnings, I didn't respond to those that didn't mention the specific bike in the ad. Good luck!

Serial number has zero affect on value. Its all about condition, pictures will tell that tale. And you will need high quality pictures to sell it anyway. A lot of Super Sports from that era will sell for well over $100, others will sell for less. Condition is everything. All original = will require a thorough service, as everything is 39 years old: bearings, grease, cables, housings, chain, freewheel, etc.

I took it apart and cleaned it after I picked it up, regreased all the bearings and shined everything up. All it needs to be ready to ride is to put on some new cables and maybe straighten the rims.

and I found a camera, I should have pictures up tomorrow.

thanks to everyone for bearing with me
