Mondia question...?
 

Hi folks,
I have been browsing Modia bicycles and seem to come up with a Swiss made sport/road cycle?
Odd, because I have two green, Mondia ‘traditional’ (sit up and beg) bicycles that were made in Belgium and I can't find any reference to them in Google?

Can anyone assist me? Each bike (men’s and ladies’) have 3 speed Sturmey Archer rear hub gears, a SA wheel rim dynamo and hub brakes. I think they were purchase in the 1980’s in Holland.
They each have decals on the frame, on the down tube under the saddle, that states;
Made in Belgum,
N.V. Marcel Geurts Ind
3630 Maasmechelen
FrameNo. 287920 (men’s bike) and
285362 (ladie’s bike)
Any help you can give me will be appreciated. Thank you.

Please clarify- do you want to know about "Modia" or "Mondia"?

Oops, my apologies folks, I meant 'Mondia'. Thanks for spotting the typo Jeff.

These bicycles are almost unused and were gifted to me. They appear to be brand new, 'old fashioned', very sturdy mounts, complete with full steel chain guards, clear plastic garment guards on the upper back wheels, full steel mud guards, rear paniers and an overall sturdy appearance. Dynamo wiring goes in and back out again of frame sections with grommets at entry points etc. You wouldn't get far in the Tour de France on these machines but they would certainly handle the rigors of cobble stones and inner city commuting. :)

Very interesting Rog. Would love to see some pictures. I think all of us here think of the Mondia as a Swiss-made bike. Maybe a Belgian company bought the name after Mondia stopped production????

Ditto from me. I regret selling off my Mondia, but it was warehouse salvage- crushed headtube during shipment, repaired, then I had fun with it until I bent the downtube doing a nose-stand.
