campy BB or any darn BB that will work at this point

Hi Everyone, I need a BB for a pogliaghi I am using a 1974 SR crank.
I ordered a BB three weeks ago only to find out the guy does not have one The guy did not let me know this until I contacted him this morning saying I have not gotten my BB or parts. I was told he made a mistake and does not have it and he is checking with contacts around the world. Unbeleivable he did not let me know sooner
any how I need a BB at this point I don't care if its shimano, campy or walmart I want to build this bike or move it on this is all I am waiting on

BB shell is 70mm I have a 1974 SR crank please point me in the right direction.starting to think this bicycle will only hang on walls(not mine), what a waste!

This may be a bit obvious, but do you mean "SR" as in Sakae Ringyo, or Campagnolo Super Record?

Campy sr
I am pretty bummed out this stuff is frustrating and too much
$$$$ I am seriously thinking about throwing in the towel and letting someone else "enjoy" the frustration of building a bicycle trying to source parts

Why don't you just use a generic Italian threaded BB? Is there any real advantage to using a Campy Super Record BB?

If you must have a Super Record bottom bracket, then yes, it will cost you.

For a Nuovo Record or even a Gran Sport bottom bracket, I just found a few on ebay all under $80. For 1974 date coded cranks a 113 mm spindle will be correct, a later 115 will work if its just a wall hanger, maybe better it you are running a 6 or more in back.

Wouldn't a 111mm BB be the appropriate length?

I don't care if its from walmart at this point. I only bought campy because it seemed appropriate and there was no love when I asked if I could just use the suntour superbe off of a faggin I have now I have a pretty frame and everything but a BB.

Look at this:

https://www.minortriad.com/campagbb.html

Chart 4, old style if you have a 1974 crank. Several possibilities on ebay, but you may need to ask the seller some questions.

Campy BBs can require some research and patience...

the pre 1977/78 english spindles were 111mm yes, but for italian they are an extra 2mm longer.

How about a more modern Campy square taper cartridge BB. Plenty of those around ... Would a Centaur be the right length ?

This should help. For frames having a 120 spacing in back.

Veloce, centaur, AC-h, and AC-s all use a 111mm symmetrical for double cranksets.

Record and chorus use 111mm asymmetric for triples.

Veloce and centaur use 115.5mm for triples (I think they are asymmetric)

Personally if your going to put some serious miles on this I would bite the bullet and buy a Phil BB. a bit pricey esp if you add in the tool but the BB will last almost forever and you can always move it to an english threaded bike with just new cups.

This is a beautiful frame and I think the finished product will be beautiful and well worth the effort and bit of aggrivation associated with the learnign curve of building your first C&V.

take a break my man! don't stress. when you're riding that thing and everything is working as it should all this stress will have seemed worth it.

but yeah buying high end framesets is tough cause you feel bad just draping shimano or whatever on it. it takes foreeeever too to find all that stuff for the right price.

Its not the $$$ I have no idea what I am doing and have been lucky buying the right stuff so far, but all I need is a bottom bracket THATS IT the correct BB stands in the way of this frame being built or just hanging on a wall. It has no value at all to me hanging on a wall. I already have all the other parts. I am packing it all up tomorrow and getting out of my site. I am tired of looking at it everyday. its frustrating to say the least

Putting it aside sounds like a good idea but please don't get rid of it. The fine people here will help you out any you will have or fine bike when you are done.

If it makes you feel any better I had a bike that was an english Ofmega mistral bb ( much more difficult to locate) away from completion. If that was not bad enough, I had an Italian version new in the box... After taking some time away, and help from the forum, I was able to mix and match spindles, cups, and spacers till I made it fit. One member even mailed me cups just so I could test them. If that wasn't enough, he sold them to me cheap after we found that hey worked.

Your bb needs are much more straightforward. If you give it a few mre days I bet a forum member comes up with one. Your other option is Phil woods. This will cost more but it will be easy to get, won't require service, and should outlast most of us

also, its the bottom bracket. only the biggest nerd ever would look at your beautiful outstanding pogliaghi, push up his glasses and point out that your bottom bracket isn't correct.

I sent him info for Branford bike. They have campy and Phil bottom brackets and have always been good to me about fit up information. It will be well worth the call.

I wish he were local. I would love to take it off his hands for a few days and return it as a complete bike.

I feel for the OP. I've been there, done that, got the t-shirt AND the frisbee, really a rough learning curve at times.
