Information about Bianchi Road bikes from the 80's needed

Hi everyone,

I've been considering getting a vintage road bike. Something with 6 or 7 speeds with down tube shifters, weight hopefully under 24 lbs. I am 5'9" with 32" inseam, so I guess 54cm or 56cm frame for me.

Can someone give me a little more information of which models of Bianchi i should be looking at?

Thanks

Take a look through Vintage Bicycle Quality and apply what you find there when looking at possible Bianchi purchases. Knowing what makes a quality bike a quality bike is very important when searching for a quality bike.

In your case, a eighties something Bianchi Champion d'Italia, a close to entry level offering but a very nice one, to say the least, would probably fit your needs very well and for the least amount of cash outlay, assuming that you want to go Italian. Keep in mind that there are Italian and Asian Bianchi bicycles. Either are fine but there are more entry level Asian offerings than Italian ones.

Good luck with your search and fear not - there are lots of old Bianchi bicycles out there.

randyjawa, thank you for taking the time to answer my post. i came upon a 1987 catalog online and was looking at the Super Leggera from Competition series or the Nuovo Alloro from their Performance series. I think the frame for the latter is some type of Bianchi Columbus Formula II? how does that compare to the Columbus SL tubing of the Super Leggera?
