Benotto tape thread
OK, it's slippery in the rain, and offers almost zero padding. But to me, Benotto says slick race bike like no other tape. It lays down super smooth, came in cool colors, and was the clear wrap of choice among all my riding buddies in the late '70s, as well as many a pro. So, pics please! I'll start.

And it was like 99¢.
I never thought of it as PRO level stuff, I had it on everything BUT my best bike, and I was happy to change colors 3 or 4 times a year. |

I don't like it. It looks and feels cheap to me. But that's just my opinion.

I used it once in 1986. While it looked cool, it was about like having no to tape.

I like the look of it but "no padding " is right. Have to wear the gloves with this one. Original tape from 87.http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=262573
Believe it is called pearlesence. |

It's my favorite, love it. Hand models hate it.

I saw it on nearly every high level bike in the late 70's, early 80's. It was new tech synthetic to us, but it was the esthetic of the times.
Our cotton became old fashioned. But it all comes full circle. I sold my stash of it a few months ago for a pittance. I've never used it, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's cool. Mexican cello tape is still more C&V to me than the new wonder wraps. |
Fun stuff to do harlequin wraps with.

I've got half a dozen rolls in different colors. I buy when it's cheap.

I love it on my '85 Tempo. I also have extra colors stashed away should I need it for a project or two. |

I dig it. I'll sometimes use two rolls per side wrapping it with a lot overlap and hiding the junction under the brake lever. Makes it a nice thickness without losing the look. |

These are like one of those few items that you can still pick up dirt cheap that's NOS. lol. I found a stash of it in the basement of shop I used to go to. Thought I found a treasure and picked up a few packs and luckily I didn't pick up the whole pile. The stuff is even hard to sell on eBay as everyone still has the stuff and for cheap. One of the only NOS items I had a difficult time selling. The stuff I had left over I just tossed into one of the "box of crap" games a few months ago. I'll admit I'm a wuss and need cushy bar tape and could never use the stuff.

I run cloth tape under Benotto for a hint of cushion. I never got cork to work.
