Converting aero levers
Has anyone ever drilled the top of aero brake levers to convert them to non-aero? I have 2 pairs of aero levers and I am wanting non-aero, I was just wondering if it would work.

why in the world would you want to do something like that?
|
Well, because I have 2 pairs of levers that I don't like. I like non-aero levers and I'm wanting to put them on my rainy day bike.
|
What brand of levers are they?
|
One pair is shimano super slr
the other is dia compe |
I'll bet you can easily trade those for non-aero levers. Most people would rather have aero.
|
I have them in the trade forum. Both pairs for one pair of non-aero levers

Non-aero levers with good hoods seem to be hard to find. I ended up putting aero levers on my old Trek even though I wanted the non-aero style.
Good luck with your hunt Sloar. Looks like you live just down the road from me! |
Wow,Alex? I thought I was the only one in Madison county that rode!

I think the answer to your question is No. The material in the area is likely thick and drilling would be difficult plus you need to also make the well for the housing to rest in. Then there is the matter of the cable routing which would be designed to only go one way and forcing into a different direction is likely to cause lots of binding.
This is the main reason I always buy (well besides being a hoarder like most C&Vers) the early Campi aero/nonaero style levers when I see nice ones. I like the feeel and depending on the build I can use them either way. |
I like the aero levers on my newer bike, but I miss my Mirrycle that only fits non-aero levers. No better place for a mirror.

I was just curious, no one took me up on a trade so I'm leaving them alone and just using aero levers. With it being a bad weather bike I like to replace cables more and non aero levers are easier to switch out cables. Thanks

a quick search on ebay turned up several:

I don't think it would work. Aero levers have the pivot point much lower and basically pull the cable forward. Non-aero levers pull the cable downward.
