What cities??

I was wondering what cities would have a high concentration of used bike, ie CL?

I know that Denver is VERY bike friendly and has an active CL.

https://denver.craigslist.org/bik/

ANY highly populated city will have their fair share as well, based solely on numbers. I'd suspect the warmer the climate, the better.

Denver CL is heavy with mountain bikes compared to other cities CL listings I've seen.

I've seen a good many nice every day vintage road bikes on the Cleveland C/L board, but not the specialty collectible Italian and French bikes.

I my experience, cities with more people. When I lived in Chicago there were many, many more on CL than here in Milwaukee.

You need to focus on communitites that are affluent if you're looking for quality, not just the climate.

I would concentrait on the upscale collar suburbs of major cities.

Not sure why you need this info? Tracking down parts? Curiosity?

Well, you could just search ALL the different Craigslists at once: https://www.adhuntr.com/

CL doesn't really like it when people develop these services, and usually shut them down eventually, but this one is active now. Once they get shut down, just Google "search all craigslist" and something else is bound to pop up.

A test search for "Schwinn" on this site shows almost 81,000 results https://www.adhuntr.com/2012/05/all.h...sa=Search#1719

SoCal has a few bikes on CL but you are looking at 3 or more counties within driving distance and maybe 40 gajilliion people. It does surprise me though when I find a gem on CL that is 4 miles from where I live. The first time I met shnibop was to try and be the first one to snag a Miyata 914 that was underpriced, 3 miles from my house. I wrestled him to the ground and.. just kidding. It was too small for either of us but I bought it anyway.

I know 1 BF member that would account for like 5% of the collectables in Orange County. I have been to peoples houses to buy a thingamajog and to see the "stuff" hanging in the garage would be quite a sight. The guy says. "1 day I might get rid of some of these bikes, but not yet". Like some vintage Italian track bikes that you won't see him list on CL.

Point is, who knows for sure. People hoard things, ya know?

Curiously, my best deals have come from cities that do not have hardly any used bikes via C/L, and often, from less than affluent areas. Sometimes, affluent areas are full of crap bikes. I know one large affluent neighborhood near me is the land of XMart bikes. I don't get it. People that wouldn't buy shoes for their kids from Walmart, seem to have no problem buying them bikes there.

My two Italian bike pickups this year were both from areas with few to no used bikes, and not exactly affluent.

Of course, I am looking for deals, rather than availability. If I was looking for a great selection, then a city like Chicago would be a good choice.

In my area, Charlotte and Atlanta have large quantities of used bikes for sale. But the deals I have found tended to be in BFE: Newland, NC, Toccoa, GA, LaSalle, IL, Manning, SC, McCausland, IA, to name just a few.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.
