Absolutely not. 27" rims are larger in diameter than 700C rims. Tires are not interchangeable, hence this thread.

I must have misunderstood the posts I saw.....

You can swap a set of 700c WHEELS onto a bike originally equipped with 27" wheels. Usually. The brakes should reach if they have even a little bit of adjustment to them. You're talking 630 vs 622, so 4mm down. Or bust out the rat file if not.

I had a set of Michelin World Tours on my Schwinn LeTour commuter. They're the thickest 27 x 1 1/4 tires I've ever seen, both in width and profile. That combined with a more aggressive tread than average for 27 x 1 1/4 tires makes them a good tire for commuting and year round/bad weather use. The only thing is that they're a heavy, slow-rolling tire but if you're just using them for a casual commute and nothing high-speed then that won't be an issue.

Also, these are available super cheap. Would recommend, especially for the price.

Just make sure that when you put your bike on the back of your car, you don't accidentally have your tire in front of your tailpipe. I did that once and found out these tires are NOT exhaust-proof :bang:

It can also be confusing as many brands offer the same tire model in 700c and 27" (e.g. Panaracer Pasela).

I agree that the Continental Ultrasport II is possibly the best all-around performing tire for the money.

Fortunately it is (one of very few tires) available in 27" which has actually been tested and rated at the bicyclerollingresistance.com website.

Features are excellent/low rolling resistance, thick tread, decent puncture resistance, good mileage and as you said it has a good ride quality.

All for under $20 online, and widely available.

I notice most of the tires you listed have decimal sizes. Did you do that instead of using 1 and 1/4 or 1 and 3/8? I ask because usually sizes in decimals are for MTB tires.

Yes the shipping and likely duty is a killer. Keep in mind with current conversion rates the $24 tire at MEC is around $18 USD, so that one specifically isn't all that different than Amazon US prices.

More for readability - all the spaces with slashes for fractions seemed a bit messier than just using decimals :)

Yeah, I hate those shipping costs which are comparable to the item cost (sometimes even higher than item cost!) Generally look for the free shipping for over $25.00 order offers. Do you get those up north?

Yes - I have prime though so all those above are prime (free 1-2 day shipping).. which helps :)

I just put a set of these 27 x 1-1/4" Schwalbe Marathons on my Shogun touring bike. Got a great deal on them at planetcyclery on ebay last fall. About $65 for the pair incl. shipping.
(link: https://www.ebay.com/usr/planetcyclery?ul_noapp=true ). Only thing about them is they're real heavy items. Have had to pump them all the way up to the maximum rating of 95psi to get them to roll fast. But, if it helps prevent flats then that's OK with me.

I'd like to add Specialized Road Sport 27x1 ¼, which I bought in 2018 for my 1952 Rudge Aero Special with original steel Dunlop rims. These wire-bead tires sit beautifully on the original nearly 70 year-old rims. The bike is being cleaned and over hauled, and so the tires have been under pressure on the rims for at least a year, still with decent pressure, starting from 90 psi inflation. Weight 500 grams, 60 tpi, width is actually 32 mm. Bike is not ready, so no ride experience as yet.

My buddies run $8 vee 1 1/4" tires and they seem fine with them... for you cheap bastards out there. Excuse me for you "frugal guys" out there.

I don't know how I find $8 tires. But I do. I guess you just have to hunt, and wait for a deal. Just like the guys who score cheap/free bikes. And buy multiple tires if there is a shipping fee to make it worth it. Anyway you asked, that is how I do it. Amazon, jenson, treefort, sherpa, ebay, where ever they pop up.

I've sworn off cheap tires. Tires are where I like to treat myself nicely. I had some CST tires that never seated right. I'm not saying they have a high defect rate, but why should I take that chance? I stick to the big names.

Its a fair point. I've had the same thing happen.. and worse. Pay daft prices get into daft situations.. be ready for it.

The Conti Ride Tour is a pretty interesting option for 27" rims. 27"x1-1/4" size. Under $20 each if you shop around. Really changes the look of my go-to bike.
