RS gets a RT

Welp I realized other then a few that I want some very nice parts for, all my projects are out of the que. I have this weekend pretty much entirely to myself, starting today so I decided I needed something to do.. and somehow I ended up at the dump.. same one my Raleigh Sports came from ;) I spotted a silver in good shape bike, and the decal on top said TECHNIUM I pretty much flew out of the truck to check it out.. I was dissapointed though, missing cranks, the rack appears to have damage issues as well.. but then I noticed... HEY A RACK! And a dynamo generator.. mounted where the rear brake should be?!?!?! then I noticed.. rear and front dynamo lights :D, but hey waht's this, the rear brake is mounted down at the chainstay bridge?!?!?! So I asked the lady, she says 10 bucks I say fine and here we are. I'll take pics in just a few.

Sounds like a Technium MTB or a hybrid? Speaking of oddballs, Raleigh USA also made one with a rear drum brake, I believe it was called the Technium CitySport. I've seen a few those around.

Edit - now I see the photo... Looks like a bumpy ride for that dynamo!

I love those big motorcycle-style brake levers, they remind me of the old Magura levers that were popular with the klunker riders.

I have no experience with dynamos other then owning an ancient generator that I don't know wether or not works.. you think I should just pull it from up there and remount the rear brake?

Fresh tires, tubes, wheels, shifter cables, repacked the headset and the BB, pulled and greased the seatpost, adjusted the dynamos riding height.. adjusted derailer limits.. no chain dump etc.. I the chain has too much slack though, and the dynamo isn't generating power but the wiring looks to be toast, maybe that can be tomorrows project? oh yeah.. properly mounted rack, don't ask. I would still love some input about this rear brake business, is it okay to have one on the chainstay bridge?!?! Brake cables check out as does the housing... oh stem got greased too, am I missing anything here?

Technically, the U-brake isn't on the chainstay bridge, it's mounted to bosses on the stays themselves. You can't swap it out with cantilevers for several reasons, but there's no need to - they work well even though they're often criticized for accumulating mud in that location. No idea about the dynamo.

Thank you for your continued input, I did some image searches and found the brake setup common on technium mtb's forgive my ignorance in this area despite my handle. And I gotta say, I did not expect to enjoy those handlebars but it's kind've a pleasure to be that relaxed on a not go fast bike.

That rear brake looks like the dia compe 990's on the 87 haro master I had when I was a kid. I recall it being finicky but very strong.

One can only hope dia compe 990's look like dia compe 990's :D, and they do seem quite strong when I was adjusting them for the new rims though they honestly didn't seem finicky at all, or did you mean in different way?

Hyy now, I was reading this on my phone earlier. I was more into riding than wrenching back then. They were hard to adjust, but I was just a kid and didn't really know how to do it. They are pretty burly and should work great for you.

>.< in 87 I think I was riding fixed gear bmx bike and was 7 if I recall correct.. very little I remember of that bike but being able to bar spin LoL. I meant no insult btw, just found humor in that statement before and yeah I've dialed in the front completely and it stops well
