I need some help obtaining info on an 80's Allez
After an exhaustive internet search, I've only been able to determine that it was made in either 1985 or 86. I would love to know the year the bike was made and find a catalog for this model. I figure the folks here would hopefully know. Any info would be awesome! Thanks in advance!
198? Specialized Allez SE - Jim Merz. Serial number on BB: CS60297

I wish I could help but I have never seen a definitive serial number database for Specialized bikes. Probably because there were too many different builders involved. Beautiful bike, the paint and components!

Shimano uses Date Codes on their components.
Look on your crank for 2 letters "EE" for example and then use this table to determine the year.

I would guess that if they are in the first half of 85 it would be a 1985. If in the latter half perhaps an 86.

Not sure if you ever found the Allez catalog you were looking for a while back. If you're still looking I have one that I could scan to you.

Bikes: Red bikes. Why do I have so many red bikes?! I thought green was my favorite color

And if it hasn't been archived somewhere, that catalog needs to be preserved for posterity. Any date codes off of the equipment? Your estimation looks pretty close. My intuition tells me '86. I have what I believe to be an '85 Allez SE and it doesn't have aero brake levers nor does it have an SIS drive train. Are your levers original or a later upgrade?

Hi Tronny - PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you the catalog.
Dave - I sent it to RetroBike. They said they would add it to their archive but didn't follow through for some reason. Anywhere else I should try to have it archived?

That's the first place I was thinking. How about Velobase? If nothing else, I'd take a copy myself. PM inbound.
Ha ha - I didn't even look at the dates on my phone. I love zombies.

Thanks for being a sport and coming back for a 3 year old thread.

I also would suggest sending it to Jon at Velobase.
Shoot him an email through the site: VeloBase.com - Contact Us
Best!

Hi kevissimo,
If I could likewise get a scan of the Allez catalog, please, that would be great! Not enough posts to PM you through the forum, but I can send you or post my email address, if preferable to you. If it's becoming a bit of a hassle for you, I can wait till it's up on some other site.
Thanks!
Charles

No hassle at all - if you want to post your e-mail address I will send you the catalog (I don't have enough posts to PM either).
