Gilles Berthoud Aravis Saddle, Reviews?

I am absolutely in love with this saddle. The look, the cut, the style, the class and the option for this finish and Ti rails.
The only thing is, I have never actually ridden one. I find that the $309 price tag is something that I do not wish to endeavour on without first researching, researching, researching. I also wish that a LBS sold (or lent out for testing) saddles of such quality around here, but alas... they do not.

I suppose what I am creating this thread for, is some reviews from all you C&V'ers out there whom have tried this saddle. I know I have seen one on Chombi's bike, but anyone else? Any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Just lookit how sexy she is! ^^^

I ordered one on Wed...there's an eBay seller asking $265 and who accepts offers. I went down quite a bit from that number and he accepted.

One member warned me that the cork finish will wear.

I'd be much obliged if you could post a ride report after you receive it
I don't have anything that the cork finish would look good with, I would personally get the black. But the cork is so pretty!

It's still going to be a bit before I can give a ride report...I'm around 2 months from being allowed to ride and then I have to build strength and stamina before I can judge.

That's a bummer. I recall seeing something you posted about being injured, or a crash or something. I just forgot when I asked.

Best wishes for recovery!

I love the bolts to replace rivets, But the plastic??? why?
For the price you can get a top end Ideale, not new but I just feel like there isnt enough special about the Berthoulds that warrants the price.

Respectfully, how can you have an opinion on a product you haven't used? There seems to be a trend on the forum, and I'm not trying to single you out (it's just an example) of people criticizing things without having any practical experience with the item. It seems to happen more often when it's something pricey.

Agreed.

Aaron, I really like the look of the Berthoud pictured, but I will request a long term ride report as well.

You know how picky I am about saddles.

I'll ride anything as long as it is a Swift, Swallow, or Regal.

I think that one think that looks so appealing to me are the countersunk bolts and precision engineering that surround them.
A machinist's eye, perhaps

That's funny, I'm a machinist too...

I have a few thousand kms on a Berthoud Aspin, including several 400+ kms days. I know everyone's bum is different, but for me, this is my saddle. I don't even think about my saddle comfort anymore. It's nice, real nice.

The leather is thick, it definitely takes some time to break in.
