Tricks to install a quill stem

I am trying to install a new handlebar and quill stem combination on my Peloton. The bars are Bontrager SSC VR-C with one of the shorter Technomic stems. I have wiggled and woggled for a while and can't get the stem around the last tight turn to the mounting section on top. The angles work out so that the quill part of the stem hits the bar as I rotate it for the last turn. I can actually get the stem on 'backwards' as there is no interference problem going this way. Anybody got any tricks for doing this ?? I love the bars and would hate to have to give up on quill stems.

Yes, I remember thinking when this was published that Jan's "dime and screw" solution was elegantly simple and infinitely better than a slotted screwdriver!

Success !!!!!!! The screw/coin approach works great, a little hard on the coin used but hey I've got cool bars on my Peloton. Thanks for the great tip.
