Odd.. 87? Centurian LeMans
 

I just got this today, I searched and have come up with 1987? I know the softride beam and stem were not stock. I was searching for a catalog or full specs and what size seat post?

Any good bike shop will have a seat post sizing tool. I would guess either 27.0mm or 27.2mm, but guesses don't count. Measure and find out.

I stripped it down and got rid of the rust. It was pretty clean underneath the filth. Does anybody recognize the stem? Is it a mountain bike stem or a softride stem to go with the beam?

Steel softride stem. They also made an aluminum one.

that would be a 1988, that year is the only one with the "fade" paint, and the 1989 has the "fade" with a marbled effect. My '88 Centurion Accordo has a 27.2 seatpost.

The lady I got it from said it was her husband's bike and he had worked for Allsop. I assume that why it's fitted with those items. It was stored under their deck for god knows how long. I have a caliper to measure the seat tube, Is there a specific way I can measure to figure out the right diameter? It has Tange 2 tubing if that helps. Does anybody know if the stays are hi ten or chromoly?

I don't know if a regular caliper will work for you. I had a bicycle recently fitted with a 26.8 post, I too it to a local bike shop and they used the proper tool to determine it should be 27.2 and they went ahead and fixed it. If you have a bike shop you like and they know you they might not even charge you a thing.

Should be a 27.0.

I was told by a guy with a 1987 lemans that his post size was 27.2. I have not been to the shop yet. The stem is 140mm, wayyy to long for me, dang I was curious how it felt. Has anybody seen the mounting hardware for the beam on my bike before? The height is pretty adjustable also, From what I have seen in other posts they are not usually adjustable. I searched google images and did not see another anywhere. Btw mods I sent an email a little while ago about not spelling unusual correctly in the thread title, It was very hot here in Seattle when I started the thread and my brain doesn't work in high heat.

I was servicing the rear freehub, an exage sport fh-a450 and broke a chunk off the rear drive side hard plastic seal when taking it out.. grrrr. I was wondering does anybody know if/what freehub seals interchange or have one in their parts bin or the same hub? Here is a pic of what I'm referring to

My brother-in-law had a softride road bike I rode during a week-long vacation. For cruising it was great, for hammering or out of the saddle it was too weird. My wife requested a beam for the stoker on our (seldom used) tandem; the saving grace is that I don't have to call out every bump in the road.

I have not used the stem or taken the beam for a spin.

I am now having issues with setting up the front shift lever to index. The little indicator notch is on the "sis" and it's not working. I have taken it apart but I have no experience with an sis down tube setup. The shift lever is an Exage sport A450. I will post pics later.

when you shift from friction to sis, make sure you turn the fixing bolt in the same direction as well. otherwise, you'll break the internals. not a lot of turning is needed.

What did they do to fix it? I tried a couple of things to get a 27.2 to fit in that frame, because everything told me it should be 27.2, but I could not get one to work. I was afraid to damage the frame.

Thanks for the reply. The front shifter lever does not have the folding loop thing to make the adjustment and doesn't look like it is supposed to. From the surprising amount of time I have been researching this problem, all of the pics I have seen of these shifters don't show the loop adjuster thing on the left side lever either. Like I said it looks like its already set to sis but it's probably an internal issue. These pics might help

I have two UG freehub hubs but have never taken out the dust cap. This one might work...

I apologize for not catching this earlier, but the L side doesn't index and isn't supposed to.
It was too hard to engineer in all the parameters of different cranksets, etc, and friction allows you to find chain peace.

Someone put a R side plastic cap on the L side lever, and it has you confused.
The L shifter of that model does not and will not index, and the cap should be solid grey.
The cap lettering makes no difference, and the L shifter just moves from stop to stop.
The folding C-clip, if it was on there, was just for show, to make it match the R.

I know they are pitted under the anodizing, but they're Light Action and pretty much are 105 shifters, and should work fine.

If you take them apart, you can either clean them up and live with the cosmetic pitting, or polish through the anodizing.

I'd take them apart, clean the heck out of them, and just get some different bolts; I don't think either one is OEM.
A home improvement place should have a flat-head bolt that works just fine. If not, Loose Screws usually does.

Again, I'm sorry I didn't catch the L shifter/R shifter issue before.
