New Sunrace rear sprocket cluster and old Raleigh/Suntour SunTour Comp V five hole.

Hello All.
My first need advice post, please forgive rookieizm.
I picked up an old Raleigh Sup Grand Prix, for very little. 1980 I believe.
I'll try to post before/after pics on Ultimate Ral.GP or Before n After.
I didn't realize at the time but it has a 26" front wheel/tire. The rear wheel /tire is a 27". Way too big . When inflated it clears the mounting hardware on the front Sun Tour Comp V derailleur by about 1/32". Too Close. I tried a 700X23 from another bike and had about 5/8" clearance between the tire and front derailleur.

Since I've got to repalce both wheels I want to get an inexpensive wheel(s) from Niagara and a Sunrace 5/7 speed 14-27 freewheel.

Will the old CompV derailleur work on the newer model 5 sprocket cluster?
If I have 5/8" clearance with the 700X23, could I use 700X25 wheel/tire ? Or is this too Big ?
Can I use 700X23 tires on their (as advertized) 700X25 wheels?
Is there anywhere, inexpensive, to find 700X23 rear wheel that will thread onto the old Suntour 14-34 ? (which I was able to remove and clean up).

Thanks for any Ideas or answers.
Dave.

The Suntour derailleur will work with any freewheel. 700 x 25c tires will fit, but 5/8" sounds a little tight, can the wheel be pulled back further in the drop outs? 700 x 23c tires will fit a wheel advertized as 700 x 25c.

I would try to find a used set of wheels on Craigslist, or a cheap donor bike with a good set of wheels. Resell the frame and parts you don't need. Money spent on a new freewheel and chain is money well spent.

Thanks Brian.
Can't pull the axle back any further as SunTour CompV rear derailleur fills about 1/2" in the rear of the right drop out and is secured with a small bolt. I thought about enlarging the opening with a chainsaw file but I'm holding off on that.
If the 700X23 tires will go on the 25mm rims that will go a long way toward solving this problem.
I think the 27" wheel and old 14-34 FW probably came off an old Raleigh. Just not this Raleigh. Somebody just thought they were all the same.
Any other ideas allways wellcome.
Thanks
Dave.
