Tommasini Model Information

I just inherited a vintage Tommasini and wanted to see if anyone new some information about it? I have emailed the factory, but it seems they are on holiday in August. It is a super nice bike with some slight fading of paint on top tube. The ride is awesome as it is my first Italian!

While browsing the internet I found this catalog picture that looks like the bike: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oroboyz/5341519673/

They made a model called a 'Racing'. This may be one of those. Very nice bike, indeed, looks to be early 80's, by the BB.

A "Racing" it is I would say as well.

Lovely example.

I am currently rebuilding a 1990 Super Prestige.

Mine has the "interesting" splatter paint frameset motif.

Enjoy yours, they are great riders for sure.

How does this model compare to the Prestige and Super Prestige?
Also the stamp code on the bottom is "12" any idea on the year?

I might have this correct/incorrect, so check with Barb at Tommasini when they return from country hiatus.

I think some of the Racing and all of the Super models were Columbus SL.

I've also seen some of the Racing models made from Columbus Tretubi.

I believe the Super Prestige is Columbus SLX.

My 1994 Sintesi is SLX New.

Barb will give you the straight scoop or another Tommasini fan on the forum will likely straighten me out if I screwed this up.

FWIW My Super Prestige is one of the nicer riding bicycles I've ever owned.

I can't wait to get her back on the road, as she is a hoot and a half on our country roads where I often ride south of the Twin Cities.

Not sure how they differ from a Prestige, geometry-wise, if at all. Different fork, more forged, rather than cast bits. Very nice bike, great inheritance. Hope it fits.

As far as the 12...I'd almost guess a country code, where it was exported to, dunno.

Nice! Let us know what the factory says when they get of holiday. In the meantime take some more pics and share them in the Tommasini Lounge - http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...mmasini-Lounge

I thought it was from that time period.

Very attractive bicycle to my eyes.

Bet she rides great.

Congrats on your good fortune.

Nice Crank!

IMHO one of the best looking cranksets CampI ever made. I hope the previous owner used the correct BB.

In spite of what the factory said, that BB wasn't available in 1976-77, nor was under the BB routing widely used at that time.

A fellow at the local racing shop that I frequent said the exact same thing.

The owner sold a few Tommasinis here and there and said in fact, the Racing models were somewhat later.

I am going off of my increasingly foggy memory of these bicycles.

They also said it was a Prestige rather than a Racing as printed on frame?? I am confused because they looked up the "12" serial on bottom bracket and I sent pictures. Why would they give incorrect information?

No one's perfect.

I had two different id's from the factory on my De Rosa Professional for example.

Here's a link to a "1970s" Tommasini for reference.

Just double checked with Barbara and its a 1976-1977 Prestige all right.

The "racing" on the chain stays means its suitable for competition.

I guess that most Tommasini's model name is on the right side of the top tube close to head tube. Unfortunately where mine has some slight sun fading. Though it does not appear that there every were decals there, but who knows.

^ OK, then. If that's a fact, I'd seriously be hunting/collecting early Super Record parts. Pantographing would be a bonus ! I'd love to have a bike of this caliber from '76 (my birth-year)

Found this too! Nice catalog scans from late 70's section looks like the details of my bike except mine has the "T" in the lugs.
