Hub issue?

Not knowing much about hubs I figured I'd better post. Took my Trek tank out today and on the way back to the house noticed I couldn't coast or back pedal because the chain would just stop, and droop - complete slack. I had to keep pedaling to keep tension on it. When I got back and put the bike on the stand I noticed if I cycled the crank arms forward and then stopped them instead of coasting the arms kept rotating around. I'm assuming this is a bad hub or parts going bad inside.

Sounds like a freewheel/freehub issue? (Acting like a fixed hub).

Cheers,
Chris

Sounds like a jammed or broken pawl in the freewheel mechanism. If flushing out with WD40 doesn't work, it's time for a new freewheel or freehub body.

Got it - I'll work on it this afternoon and, if it's truly broken have a set of wheels on stand by from Roger M - this truly is a great place.
