  • Paste flux brushes are your good friend.
  • Rotate as you go so you're always applying glue to the part of the hula hoop near the workbench.
  • Disposable gloves are your best friend.
  • Cover the base tape completely, but no further out.
  • A crappy apron is your BFF.
  • Once fully glued, I find someplace to balance the hula hoop on its valve stem so the glued tape doesn't touch anything else (well, as little else as possible.

@SJX426 Thanks! I already had that one bookmarked and will review it before going forward. Got one stretching on a rim right now.

@smontanaro, Yep, I've read up on the process and it seems pretty straightforward. And I've worked with contact cement in various forms lots of times, so I think I actually get the basic idea; its just a matter of prepping and execution now. Gonna head across the street to the LBS to see if they've got the glue...

Paramount decals! Olympic panel and 531, direct from Waterford.
I can't repaint any time soon, but I'm sure gonna have the proper livery on the existing blue in the meantime!

Garmin Forerunner 610 kit

Decided to upgrade from my 305 for a little more compact design, better heart rate strap, and wireless connectivity. I have Edge 500 for bike, this is mainly for hiking and working out. It's a factory refurb, but I've had good luck with refurb'ed products in the past. We'll see how it works out.

ok, so not everything came today, but over the last while I received good stuff from @sloar (Zeus cranks, RD, FD, shifters), @sonatageek (very dark brown Brooks saddle and a Cuyahoga Valley National Park visitor map - nice touch), @mrv (tricolour hub), @Ed. (shoes) and @Crankaddict (universal levers). Jersey from the bay - Verzelli is an LBS in Toulon, France. Don't know what USTT is but I like the blue and the Peugeot-like checkerboard pattern.

Thanks to all.

Brad

Finally getting around to fixing up an old bike I've had sitting in the basement for a long time. Don't know why I've waited for so long.

So I thought what the heck, lets straighten this thing or break it.

Well, I was a bit surprised to find that this material had some spring to it, hence the secondary operation.

The bolt was pressed out using deep sockets from a 1/4" and 1/2" drive. Dont' know if it is good enough yet, need to test it on one of the "good" RD's. Thought you might be interested. I think the body is in decent condition for use if the bore the bolt goes in is not oval.
Patrick, super job giving that body a second life! I never would have thought of that solution (ummm....I'm gonna need that back....)

Glad you could get the bolt out, too. I've gotta know: what seemed to be keeping it stuck in the body? For the life of me I just couldn't figure that one out.

Awesome that we got the part to the right person with a bit of coordination. I love it when it all works out

@Drillium Dude - I thought what the heck. If it breaks it breaks, if not, it would be a good body!

I haven't fully analyzed the bolt issue. but I have a suspicion that it was really torqued onto the drop out hanger and the edge was deformed, flared out slightly around the edge. I will take pictures if I can get a good one to show what I mean. The solutions is problematic, if this is the case. The bolt may not be usable. Stay tuned.

And Dave, my name is Patirck!

@Drillium Dude - I took measurements, tried a picture but it really couldn't show the features well.
If you recall, the bolt has two bearing surfaces, one at the head and the other next to the threads. The larger surface is by the head and measured 11.44mm dia. The smaller surface (width) measured 11.44 toward the head end and 11.55 next to the thread. So the part is damaged with the edge "mushroomed with a nominal diameter 0.11mm larger in diameter. This would account for the bolt not coming out of the bore. I used a drift punch to remove it which may have shaved the bore out to the larger diameter. When I get to it, I will put a known good bolt in to see how much damage was done to the bore.

Patrick: interesting; I wonder how that happened? Maybe it was compressed against the dropout derailleur hanger ear in the accident that deformed the back plate on the body of the derailleur itself. As good a guess as any, I suppose.

At least you were able to save the body for re-use. Good deal

Challange Strada Biancas on sale at Velomine.

Also picked up a very slightly used set of Compass Chinook Pass locally. Wouldn't fit his frameset.

I love my Frenchie version as well so I figured I'd need a new pair to go with the new bike. I have larger hands so the "one size adapts to all" isn't exactly ideal for the first few rides, though.

Now... To get rid of this new batch of snow...

Ooh nooo! You just made a Death NR derailleur out of it!
Just kidding. The bend wasn't that bad to be worried about the repair....... but it should not take any more bending, especially the other way or the AL crack gods might pay you a visit....

Yeah, it's getting old.

Pinched a nerve a week ago so I can't ride anyway.

Good news is I finally received the soccer schedule so we can set some ride dates.
