I've been rebuilding the drive train on my Gitane Grand Tourisme for the last 2 months. I was pretty sure I needed a new freewheel, but of course, I didn't have a freewheel tool for an Atom freewheel. 5 week's later the freewheel tool finally arrived. I was able to take the freewheel off and confirm that the beautiful high flange Campy hub had French threads. So...... I ordered a NOS Regina 5-speed from Italy. It arrived today!!!!

So the brazed Nitto sex appeal showed up today so I combined it with the spacers from Rene Herse and we have a total steel package..
In the Innicycle thread I was commenting on the fact that I didn't like how the aluminum stem and spacers looked bigger than the head tube, this fixed that problem but it wasn't cheap.
The last thing I want to get done is a SON 28 laced into the front wheel and get my generator lights put on..I'll do that around Christmas when I'm not going to be on the bike daily..

Been putting good mileage on an ‘85 Miyata 912 (so fairly similar setup to yours) I got this summer and the LBS said only thing that could use replacing is the chain. Had none in stock, so I’ll buy online - but are there certain ones that are better/worse than others? Ones to definitely avoid?
Also picked up a generic 6sp Shimano freewheel eventually replace too cause they had one left at the shop, but then I felt I’d rather keep it all as original was (and that 13-24t uniglide NOS is like 200-300$ on eBay
).Any advice, given your miyata rebuild? Will a new tight chain be good enough considering there’s nothing actually wrong with the original freewheel? Is a 14-24t going to feel different than 13-24t does? Do tiny things like that a real difference?

Today I received the VO box. Quick shipping with the only delay courtesy of the USPS. Swamped after the Monday holiday those guys just didn’t want to deliver another package on Tuesday! Went to the Post myself today.
I splurged bad for a good bike!
VO: tall stack to level out the threadless stem and get rid of the spacers. Nice espresso leather to try when I change the bars to Nitto Noodles. Lite Modernista bottle cages and handle bar 31.8 to 26.0 spacers for when the Noodle goes on latter.
Niffty decal to put somewhere courtesy of VO.
Short test ride after the change had a positive feel and a big smile on my face. My legs OTOH, were screaming cause of the long hard miles they already put on my workbike earlier...

I got this bit of special love from Josh and the good friends in Indianapolis. I have been seeing better clamping systems and this helps over what I have been using. And the presta valve fitment is going to be one up on the old press on Silca brass heads. smiles, MH

I like new, ramped, chromed Sunrace 7-speeds. They're 13-25 or 14-28 depending on crankset. I need at least a 28t for bikes with a 42t small chainring. It's hilly here. It's a good idea to try a couple different ratios and find your sweet. Keep a spare or two in the bin. Take 'em off on occasion to clean the hub behind the freewheel, and you'll never injure yourself on one that has seized.

This bike is a 600EX groupset that has the uniglide freewheel and uniglide chain. This makes the shifting smoother, and I’d like to keep it that way. Read in few spots it just won’t be the same with a kmc chain and/or other brand clusters (but don’t know how valid that is)? Almost more importantly though, I would like to keep this specific bike as true to its original self (if possible). It’s why I’m a bit hesitant to start swapping in parts that may not work AS beautifully together as originally intended.
Also, seems the only spot I can see that same shimano 600 UG chain that’s NOS is in the $100 range + $30 shipping. Sounds outlandish, but maybe it is the going rate for something that’s slowly disappearing altogether? I really don’t know.
If it helps, found the original catalog scan of my bike (the 912 column) - so it’s mostly the chain & uniglide freewheel I’d be looking to swap out for identical NOS.... the chain being the only “must” according to my LBS.

Bought an 85 Specialized Allez SE on Sunday from OfferUp. Ordered replacement brake hoods Sunday night and they arrived today!
Most places were OOS but I found the hoods here through EBay.
