I had only one 27" wheel, the rear on my Pro Tour, in regular usage. I had recently replaced the front with a 700c + dynamo setup. Realizing that I'm about to move to Sweden, and that I'll have no car while there, I was a bit concerned not only about the availability of tires and such, but that I'd also be relying on single walled rims and freewheel hubs for most of my transportation needs. I hmmmed and hawwwwed for several days with a full Amazon cart before pulling the trigger.
I decided to "upgrade" to a 700c + 8 speed cassette rear wheel. I bought a basic Sun CR18 laced to a cheap Shimano cassette rear hub from Niagara (via Amazon), a Park cassette tool (with 4 freewheel tools, how have I never worked on these?), an 8 speed nickel-plated Sunrace MTB cassette and a Continental Touring Plus 32 mm tire. The stuff was sent from several sources by several carriers over the last week.
Tomorrow brings my first attempt at coldsetting a frame (120 mm to 135 mm!). This transition is appropriate, too, because I'm thinking in the future about indexed shifting and such, as well as touring all over Europe with my 5 weeks of annual vacation. Some of this stuff may end up being transferred to my Carlton once I really figure out my needs and resources over in Europe.
My only issue so far is that I've spent two hours pulling alumin(i)um chips and other fragments out of the space between the "walls" of the rim. It's rather annoying once the nipples and spokes are in place! The noise, when I spun it slowly by hand, was just too much to tolerate.

Decided not to buy a commercial calendar for 2014. Instead I had one made from my cycling photos from Costco photos online. Had a second printed for my dad for Christmas too.

Hmmm, a box yesterday from Ely, Mn.
From one of my favorite outdoor's outfitters, Piragis.
I've been whining about my old hatchet for ten+ years, so perhaps there could be a connection.
An original Stanley that was my grandpa's that needs to be replaced, as it has been resharpened for the last season I fear.
They do carry some fancy models at this store, so we'll have to wait and see.

This would make an exceptional single speed. Imho
A White Industries crank and bottom bracket would do the trick.

This thread is killing me....lol. I'm stuck up north on vacation, tracking all the parts I bought on eBay to finish my build. So far, there should be 8 packages waiting for me. I guess it'll be like a late Christmas.
