Thanks, I think this one will really serve many purposes for me.

It's going to be close, but I am shooting for clearance to use Challenge Strada Biancas.

They are advertised 700x30s, but the set I have runs a little narrower.

If those won't fly, I'll try the new Compass Cayuse or Chinook Pass tires for grins.

I assume these are going on the Serotta?? I'm sure it will serve many purposes quite well. I can't wait to see it come together.

A Planet Bike bell and two sets of Kool Stop Eagle II in red for the tandem. @glenfordx4 was kind enough to send me instructions for the Suntour SE installation. Followed them with the new pads. With several inches of snow outside, I was not able to test them but they really feel like they are going to be a big improvement over the 20 year old pads!

What's your opinion on the SE brakes? I've *heard* that they shouldn't be used for front brakes, but excel as rear brakes.

Suntour didn't produce SE's for the front due to the liability issues that might materialize. At least that is what I have read. Your can't swap front and back anyway as the helix movement of the rear is opposite of what would be needed on the front.

As I have just assembled the bike during the bad weather and have only ridden it for less than 10 miles with the original pads, all I can say is that I was able to stop! This is also my first real assembly and adjustment of Canti's, which was an interesting learning experience for setup. Now that it is all set up correctly, I hope. The test drive will help answer your question. My expectation is a reflection of what others have said, that they perform equivalently or to modern linear brakes, which is why they are not available. With linear having lower production cost, less weight and much easier to adjust.

The frame is set up for 27" rims so I am not sure about a switch. I do have an extra pair of linears and may try a trial fitment. If a switch is possible, then I would have to aquire the right drop bar levers too.

You bet they are. It should be a fun build. I'm also going to have a custom rack built for the front. It will add some utility.

Thanks again for your interest.

Utlity is the first word that comes to mind on your build. A true 'sport utility vehicle'.

Thanks for producing such an interesting build; I hope to see the end result (along with any progress, for that matter).

Do these set up like the XC Pro brakes? The set I have was missing a couple of washers- it made setting the tension on the return spring impossible. Once I figured that out- it was relatively easy to get them set up. Usually, brakes and me don't get along too well...

more books for more coursework... Luckily almost the entire stable is up and running now, so there's plenty of riding to do. Got a really nice loop in today.

Definitely.

Thanks, it should be special.

Any combination of Winter bicycles and Serotta sounds good on paper I would think.

i got me some black leather San Marco bar tape and 3 K-Edge chain catchers. i know how to properly adjust a FD but for $20, i figure the chain catcher is good insurance for a carbon BB or vintage paint.

liking to see those lovely Campy machined arts.
adding one myself too here, fresh in the mail. Chorus double pivot calipers pair.

came along with 'em, a wall-mount bike rack + utility shelf made out of Indian rosewood a.k.a sheesham wood.

lastly, Trusco metal tool box. always fancied having a nice metal tool box.
made in Japan, with nice touches i.e) cantilever lids, powder coated etc.
returning it, however, surprisingly too small and not worth the dollars i paid.

*please recommend me a nice metal tool box that is big enough to store all the bike tools—including crown tool setter and chain whip wrench etc.
also one won't brake the bank.

NOS 1990 Team Miyata frame and fork, 56cm.

Over the next few weeks I'll be building this up with a mint condition Dura Ace 7400 group, with the exception of the headset (Stronglight A9), handlebars (Nitto Olympiade) and pedals (Shimano PDA600).

This is not a "score" as in a great money saving deal. A month ago we had a fire in our home, nearly everything totaled, including my Aegis Aro Svelte CF road bike. I will cointinue to look for vintage deals, but I see this as my "real" road bike for the forseeable future. What the insurance company is paying for replacement is more than I am spending on the above, so I'm okay this time with splurging.
