Giordana Antares: Love it, hate it, know about it?
Hey BF'ers,
I figured I'd make a thread about this relatively unknown italian bike before it's passed on. I doubt its rareness & collectability factor but it certainly was built up nicely. From the little info I got from searching around BF, Giordana's nicer models may have been manufactured by Pinarello or another Italian maker. This one? maybe, maybe not. This one's frame & fork material is Columbus Cromor (between SL & Aelle: check the chart) but it is VERY light especially for it's size. Dropouts are stamped Giordana as well as the fork crown area, seat stays, and brake bridge.
This Giordana was put away in storage by the PO for the last 10 years, so aside from a parts of the decals drifting away and few paint chips it's in sweet shape. It's a beautiful bike and the Campagnolo bits certainly don't hurt. Sadly it doesn't fit me so off it goes! Feel free to post any & all thoughts!
198X Giordana Antares: Detailed Info

When its an Italian frame with Campy components it's always LOVE - for me anyway. The yellow frame and red bar tape certainly let you know it's around.

A little attention to details and someone will get a very nice bicycle.
I commuted two years ago on a Cromor framed bicycle.
Most of us would think it's nicer than Cromor, as they ride great imho.

That's a fine looking bike - well put together. Cromor tubing is pretty decent. IMO it is an improvement over SL as far as ride quality. Too bad it doesn't fit.
What's going on with the rear brake cable routing? Looks like the housing was partially removed.

Giordana (mainly associated with clothing) was the house brand of Gita Importing, they handled Pinarello among other brands, but the frames were:
"Some of the original Giordanas were designed and built by Dario Pegoretti and the bulk of the production were picked up by Billato. Do a search over at the Serotta forum for more details." a quote from this thread:

Given it's a Cromor tubed model I'd say very likely made by Billato, which ain't bad.

Not to be picky, but I believe the RD is Athena, which may mean that at least some of the rest of the group is, too. Hard to tell the difference between Chorus and one-two year later Athena in that time period. (without a scale)
But I love the bike. Too bad it doesn't fit you.

Nice bike. I like the yellow/red combo. Re the component, they look more like Athena to me. Certainly the brakes are not monoplanar since the caliper arms don't pass through eachother. The Chorus crank arms have a bit more bend to them. I can never tell the C-record/chorus/athena/croce d'une headsets apart.
Edit: Ex Pres beat me to it while I was writing.

Gorgeous bike. I am familiar with Giordana frames because their geometry is nearly identical to Eddy Merckx century frames, and I spent a long time looking for a Merckx or Giordana in my size a while back. Finally found and bought a Merckx Corsa 01 from BiKyle in Philadelphia, which actually sold both Merckx and Giordana frames at the time.
