Cool thanx for the info!!!! It looks like a lenton sports for what we have been talkking. Ill check on ebay if the original handlebar shows up, but i like this riding position better. I have a high end mtb and I was looking for a confortable sunday bike. Ill try to find and keep the originals in case i sell it or hang it in my living room!!!!
Next question: As my bike is a repaint, i got the whole fork painted. Id like to have the little round chrome thing done. Is that round thing removable or i have to chrome the whole fork and then paint on top of it, exept or the chrome part? Its a bit messy but i think u got me!!!!

Are you referring to the two chrome cups on the fork crown? Those are called thimbles, and they can be removed while the rest of the fork is painted.

I would like to see more photos of the crack in the stem.

That stem is a rare item, virtually impossible to replace, and though obviously I wouldn't recommend anyone ride with it if it's dangerous, but if it's not too bad let's not freak out. The crack I see, in one photo, is to my eye somewhat ambiguous.

The more I look at this bike the more I think it's a No. 28 Super Sport and not a Lenton. What makes me think this is, the Headclip, flutted cranks, 3 pin chainring . The No 28 was a Sports configured bike assembled from 531 tubes. If there is and any remains of red/orange paint under the silver or showdows of a 531 decal....than I think you've got a real rare bird. I could be, and most likely am wrong, but that's my impression.

Would measuring the frame help? I dont see any paint below on the scratches. Maybe they polished it to steel before repaint?
Also, how do i get those chrome cups off? Pressure with a screwdriver? Twisting?

Don't remove the dimples if you don't have to. A little over paint might come off with careful use of extrafine steel or bronze wool with a little polish. If you must remove them then some chips of ice (dry?) in the cup may loosen it before you to pry it out carefully using a sharp edge. I'd avoid it if possible.

It would be great if you could retake photos of the bike with many detailed closeups of all the components, lugs, rims etc. How about the size of the wheels and seat post? The devil's in the details.

So you think i could polish te extra paint away and get to the chrome? That would be cool, but I think it might get a bit tricky inside the dimple. I was maybe thinking to send to chrome the stem(weld it first maybe), handlebars, cranks, and dimples. You guys think its a good idea if its a job well done, or u prefer to hace the original chrome?

Center to Top= 56cm/22inch
Center to Center= 54cm/22.63inch
Top Tube= 55.7cm/22.63inch
Crank= 16.5cm/6.49inch
Seat=250mm(aprox, is that possible???)
The rims read something like= "Dunlop 28 x 1"? And i think "made in the Uk PAt" and a patent numer, you can see these on the photos.
The tires are 28x 1 5/8 x 1 1/4

28 inch Endricks are rare and the "tyres" are extremely hard to find. DocBilly, any other markings on the sidewalls?

They might be EA2's or EA4's. Here's a Dunlop chart showing British rim sizes and relative sizing conventions. If the size is not clear, you can run a tailors tape around the bare rim bead. Whatever you do, don't ever throw that rubber away.

Given the scarcity of these wheels, this bike would be a great candidate for a second wheelset to be a daily rider. No use riding around on irreplaceable rolling stock.

I agree it's a very rare rim, or at least one I've never heard of before and certainly never encountered; but the tires he has on it are standard 700c tires and not that hard to replace. Whether they are correct for that rim is another question that of course I cannot address; but the circumference of the F13 rim, at 77", is pretty close to the 700c diameter of 622 mm.

I didn't know Dunlop made the 622 in an Endrick...I've got a bunch of Westwoods in that size.

No, 700c was not mentioned, but Docbilly wrote "the tires are 28x 1 5/8 x 1 1/4" which is what they call that size in Germany and other countries, perhaps including where Docbilly lives. According to Sheldon Brown, it is a northern european designation for the 622 mm (700c) size.

This puts a very interesting twist to things. Are there any markings on the tires? The definitive answer on the question of rim size can be had by measuring the rim, both diameter and circumfrence.

28 x 1 5/8 Rims have a diameter of 622mm (24.5 inches) with a circumfrence of 1954mm (76.9 inches).

26 x 1 1/4 Rims have a diameter of 597mm (23.5 inches) with a circumfrence of 1875mm (73.8 inches).

26 x 1 3/8 Rims have a diameter of 590mm (23.25 inches) with a circumfrence of 1853mm (73 inches).

Guys the Tires are made in Argentina, they are not the original ones, the look old though. They might be the original measure, or they might have been switched to another one. Since 1948 my country has undergone so many foreign exchange policies, over and over again, having times in which you cant find some medicines because they are made abroad, and times in which its cheaper to buy something across the world than in the corner.
Looking over at the rims i found it says Dunlop 28 x 5/8(i think, the 8 is way too near the nipple) and then 1/4. I think it then reads AE MADE IN THE UK PAT and a pat number. Right now i cant measure the rims not look back at them as my bike is undergoing a general service, including the Stumey Archer hub. Fortunately my local bikes dealer has fixed lot of them and does know how to do the right service.
When they get back I can measure them, and even take them to my medical office where i have a microscope to see if i can read all the rim has to say.
Is it possible if i get the patent number, to look at what product was patented on the UK patent registry?

1948 Raleigh...What model is this?
 

This bike gets more interesting all the time. So now it appears to have 700c wheels. I, personally, have never seen a Raleigh of that period with 700c rims. It's a shame the bike was refinished as it destroyed many clues we might otherwise have regarding the model. It is still a very cool bike.

Guys one more things. I´d like to get the bike some downtube decals and maybe the seattube too. Do you know any website selling the right ones? Should I wait till we find out exactly what model it is, if we ever do?

H Lloyd Cycles in England has an impressive catalog of decals that you can download. The last time I looked, they didn't have the earliest version of the Lenton Sports graphics, but the catalog changes periodically so it's worth a look.

Since we don't yet know what you've got, and I don't know what's available, I don't know what to advise. The decals on these usually say Raleigh on one tube and have the model name on another; so I guess just chosing the 'Raleigh' decal for the downtube would be an option. In some cases --the Record Ace, for example-- the decal color has to match the paint color. Tricky!

Guys Im ordering the Sturmey Archer cables clamps for the top tube and the Decalls. I already recieved a brooks B17 on dark brown and im waiting for my proofide and brooks champon tool bag to arrive aswell. Its getting really complicated down hjere, because they are trying to forbid to buy stuff online, and its impossible to find this stuff down here. Hop i can finish this bike before all goes to hell.
What do you think of this decalls. I found them on a webpage called Ciclomondo. Im planning to have one on the downtube and one on the seat tube. Do you think these match a 48 bike or they are much newer? They are the Rl 20 and Rl 28

Oh! Also, I removed paint from the dimples but theres no chrome under. Who ever repainted it polished all aeay. Whats the safest way to remove the dimples? Si there a tutorial anywhere. id like to remove them and send them to chrome. Also, should i chrome the handlebat, stem, cranckset, or leave te origina chrome?

Couple of things...those decals are so wrong. You really should try to find an early example of a Sports from the late 30's or early 40's to compare and try to buy what you need from Lloyds PDF

You can salvage a set of dimples from a used fork...there's millions of them out there.

The stem is unique but you're no starting to plow a lot of money into a bike that is no longer original and will likely never be worth what you put into it. Many of us have done that once or twice but unless you've got money to burn then don't. I would just clean and polish...it's all in good shape, except it would be nice if some kick-arse welder could fix that split and clean it up so the bar fit's nicely. Then it might be worth chroming.

Or you could just put these 50's decals on it and ride it.
