Looks like you're going to get most of your money back (maybe more if there's the usually push of bids right at the end). Good luck.

Thanks. The winning bidder backed out after being the high bidder for 5 days. Such is life.

Do I have this right?
Not quite. It's a "real" Singer, but not made by Singer - in the same fashion that a Masi Nuova Strada is made by Billato; yet, is still a Masi.

It just so happens that - until now - not many members here were aware of the fact that the Singer lineup was once host to a subcontracted randonneuring bike of a more pedestrian nature when compared to the hand-built frames of Ernest Csuka. This may come as a shock to those that hold such a high image of the Alex Singer brand, but it happened.

I was very impressed that you took your lumps and the high road with this item. Which makes it all that more galling that the high bidding scumbag backed out. Your description was good enough that nobody has a justifiable reason to back out. If you are willing to share the bidder's ID, I would like to add them to my list of blocked bidders.

I personally think the bike is nice but i don't think having the Singer name on it justifies that sort of money.
But saying that i suppose some people will pay that sort of price simply because it's a Singerish.
I'm sure if you leave it for a while and then relist it you will sell it.

More importantly, how many CNC Singers have gone past the eBay auction block, and what baseline pricing have they set - or is this the first?

Honestly to me, this is like someone asking $1000 for a Super Sport, because they were made in the same building as the Paramounts. Just because it says Singer on it, doesn't mean it should bring a load of cash to whomever happens to possess it. It's nowhere near the same as a constructeur bike, though it may look similar from 30-40 feet to the untrained eye. Sorry if I offended anyone. Just an alternate opinion.,,,,BD

One that I can say for sure matches this bike. It was from a number of years ago, 2007? It went for under $800. plus shipping from France, no idea where the buyer was located.
There were a few 700c Singer Shop bikes too, my guess also from C.N.C. that were closer to what would come from the Singer Shop, built in the 70's it appeared. Those went for quite a bit more but still under 2k US.

The last Singer CNC bike sold on Ebay for around 3k but there was question marks over whether it was a CNC one or not.
But that bike couldn't be compared to this one , it was a hell of a lot nicer.

If you spell it d0uche, it doesn't get edited out... I didn't know the French equivalent for shower was such an offensive term.

Great initials as I'm sure he's frequently thinking that as he boards a flight.

As I'm not multilingual, perhaps someone who knows French could respond. I think CDM has visited this thread. Surely he'd know, yes?
