My son bought a bike yesterday.

He is away at college and called me to look at a CL ad he was considering. A early 70s Batavus stovepipe bike with steel rims, handlebars and Huret or Simplex derailers. I warned him away from that one and found a mid 80s Schwinn Prelude for a few bucks more. I thought it was better on all points and he went and got it. Helmet and pump purchased this morning.

Sounds like a good score, and he's got a great bike, street cred, and a really nice frameset in case he wakes up one morning as a hipster....

I dropped my son off last Friday, and today he emails me about the Univega frame I have becoming a "flat-bar roadie?" Yeah, son, we can do that...
