Found this on the local CL. At least it's a pretty classy build. If I ran into a Dave Scott Expert frame, "fixie" is not a word that would come to mind...

That was my thought when better sense kicked in. I am tempted to buy it just to save it from being spray-painted yellow, though...

Not meaning to hijack, but if it makes you feel better I recently facilitated the transfer of this one from one friend who bought it new to another friend who is getting into cycling and wants to keep the gears intact. Ha!
The original owner bought a new Raleigh in 2000 and hasn't ridden the Ironman since, so it will be nice to see it back in circulation. Also strange to think that it is the same bike I rode alongside for many miles years ago while I was on my DX-5000. Ah nostalgia! ;)

I hear ya ! That's why I saved this one from further destruction. Seller already mentions the FD braze on was chopped, but that's it so far.

Indeed. That should be fun when the tire wears out... Unless it's not a fixie and is actually a single-speed, it seems like a bad idea.
That frame screams to be given gears and ridden fast, though.

Look pedals are an odd choice for an urban fixie too.

Velognome, we were moving halfway across the country 6 years ago and I had to seriously reduce the fleet of 40 bikes. I'd bought it with a mish mash of mostly non-original parts so it wasn't a tough decision to part it out and let another enthusiast build it up again with some NJS parts. It was a tough, regrettable decision.

Yeah figured that but even those smoke jobs have pedigree & heritage. Eventually most classic builders started ugly-painting steel frames, then eventually transitioning to non ferrous bikes somewhere along the road to the present. Now, it's all forgettable.

Centurion only sold bikes with unicrown forks for the last few years of their existence

and smoke paint jobs are classic AND vintage imo...

I do see, though, how one could wish for some immunity from Centurion and the 80's......just not me.

To me, Centurion is just another of a long line of marketing companies. They did not make a single bike, but they did a nice job of choosing others to build bikes from them. The 1970s and 1980s was full of such brands: Centurion, Univega, Nishiki, Lotus, etc. I have had nice bikes from all of them, currently have a Centurion, Lotus, and Univega in the "collection". Oh yeah, and my favorite Schwinns were all made by Panasonic.

I really like the 1970s Centurions.

Yep, "sigh" is right! But it's "better to have loved than never to have loved at all"..... Na, if you love something, you should hide it in your attic or basement. (humans, pets and livestock excluded of course)
