Our first ride on a tandem was a test ride of that model Gitane. AIRC it was selling for $330 and the shop also had a 531 Gitane selling for $450 new. We ended up buying a used Gitane Tandem Sport model from another shop. Sorry - don't remember the model name/number for that one with the top tube that splits to go around the captain's seat tube.

I believe it was in '74, but it could have been '73.

Interesting bike kc0yef, I don't think I've seen one with a full-size double top tube. Do you have any photos of the lugs at either end of the top tube?

Here is a Gitane "custom made" "touring" model I found a couple of weeks ago. Also 27" wheels. Single top tube/mixte
