Vintage Bicycle or Rifle???
2 Attachment(s)
It is not often that I get excited these days when I find an old bike. Recently however, the Dump has offered up a nice old Bottecchia Model Special, a lovely Falcon something or other, a clean Dawes Galaxy, another Falcon something or other, a Vitus 979 (believe it or not) and several other lesser bikes including an Allegro, a Giant, a LeMage, a Holdsworth, a Bianchi and a lovely yellow and blue Jeunet. But which one did I get excited about..?
Just picked it up, and I had to pay actual money for the bike, an hour ago. The bicycle is a double top tube rod brake Wondsor Winchester. I love it and a fellow walking down the back lane offered to triple my investment, if I would sell him the bicycle. Not a chance just yet. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=269777 http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=269778 |
I need to move to Canada :p Nice finds indeed ! More photos of that please !!
Cheers, Joe |
lets see the holdsworth!
|
1971 Holdsworth Record in near original condition. I sold the bike last week but offered to throw in a set of 1971 Campy high flange Gran Sport to Weinmann wheels that I just assembled today. True tomorrow and ship on Friday. The fellow also wants to buy my Viking. Anyway, the Holdsworth Record...

man do i love holdsworths! great color scheme and i really like them little fenders!

I don't get it. Thunder Bay isn't that big a town and your riding season is really just 3 weeks of poor sledding. What is going on that so many nice older bikes are just getting dumped? Are you the northern terminus for a line of bicycle thieves or something?
|
its that bike thief!!!
he just marks the bikes and the thief takes them to the dump for him! pretty nice arrangement. |

Having been to Thunder Bay on numerous occasions, I think the volume of cast off's is due to their exceptionally good taste in many different things (including bicycles). I love to see these finds, both because I know they are out there, and I know there is good humanitarian work being done with so many other bikes that us C&V'ers might pass over.
|
I just think all the bikes dumped in the Great Lakes must wash ashore at Thunder Bay.:)
Ironically, the thunderbay craigslist has exactly one bike listed this morning! Maybe Randy has cornered the market by giving away bikes through the co-op!:thumb: |

I think Puch was wisecracking.....ok, not the best choice of wisecracks, but I dont think he meant anything by it.
Also, yes, I thought you (Randy) meant DUMP, as in place where people drop of garbage and used up worthless stuff....... Anyhow, lets all just lighten up and not let this thread follow an ugly tangent. Cheers, Joe |

This is a great looking bike but I resent Bianchis being refered to as 'Lesser bike' in the company of Giants and Holdsworth Sheesh! ;)
http://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...8&d=1346112502 Have you had time to do any research yet? Any relation to Winchester Repeating Arms? |

Really. |
Doesn't everybody get thier bikes from the dump??? Awsome finds. We have some aggressive metal scrappers that have really cut off the vintage flow.
|
I really like those bars on the Winchester.
|
Winchester seems to have had their name
associated with many things , flashlights and knives and things . BrowninG sold 3 models of bikes in the 70's as well . |

Ho Boy - Great place Canada. I would consider moving from sunny and warm Queensland, Aust. to be near a recycling 'Dump' like yours. What an interesting 'string' of great recycled bikes but I do like your final choice.

I finally managed to get some new articles published on my website. Though some of you might want to see a bit more of this lovely old Windsor Winchester...

I'm also sure that puchfinland's tongue in cheek reply was meant in jest, and not derogatory. Lighten up a bit, guys... it's the Holidays! |
