Am I losing my C&V ways? Slightly OT
So the other day, I decide to remove my generator/voltage regulator from my old Volvo:

Next, I'll be cold-setting all my steel frames and converting them to Ergos. Wait! That happened already. I guess I'm lost. Is there any redemption in pumping my tires with a Silca floor pump? http://i45.tinypic.com/6i47jo.jpg |
I remember working with those generators and regulators back in the day. As C&V as they are, I'm 100% for alternators and electronic regulators.

Yes I would vote you off the island for that. What year is the Volvo?

Don't damage your pump - for that you could not be forgiven.

Did the same thing on my 63 Ford Galaxy(Ford 300, actualy, not many made, and unbelievably I made a profit when I finaly sold it!) that was the apple of my eye in my 20s. I got so that I could pull the generator out and replace it in about eight minutes, thats how often I had to mess with it. And I actualy used a, a, GM part cause it was cheaper. I felt dirty, but dirty with lots of peace of mind.
And i was the guy who sourced enough of the old paper glove compartments to make a pattern, and make a replacement out of the closest paper board I could find. Actualy made and sold them to guys with falcons, galaxys and fairlanes. Beer money. |

There is a saab 96 for sale near here. I am really thinking about it.

good call.

Say no to SAAB. Volvos are much better. Sold and worked on both types.

Psh. Old Saabs are much more fun than Volvos and just as reliable (except for Volvo 240. What a beast!). The V4 is fun to work on! Look after the balance shaft.

Try as you may, I've worked on SAAB 900's. Any car company that would put the engine on top of the transmission and then mount it backwards, is out of their minds. Real POS. The 9000 is a totally different beast. |
9000 was cool. Recently saw the Lancia version. Only drove a 900 once. First impression was that it felt much more sluggish than the 99. But the old "tub" Saabs are closest to my heart - 96, 93, 92.

Probably the only thing with the Lucas name on it that worked.

My favorite car ever was my 95 Aero. Very versatile car: it was great for embarrassing poseurs at trackdays & autocross, carrying tons of stuff, and could get 32-35mpg if you could exercise restraint on the boost. Back to topic, I love the old Volvos as well. The digital tire gauge kind of counteracts the Silca pump, though!! |
