iTouch/iPhone Bar Mount?
Anyone use a handlebar mount for an iPhone/iTouch/Android/etc.?
Anyone make their own? I'm contemplating getting one or making one for myself, so I'd love some advice! |
I had been carrying my iPhone in my jersey pocket but didn't like that very much. My LBS stocked a BiKase so that it was I tried. It is a neoprene case that zippers closed. It has a window to see the phone and the touch screen works thru the window just fine.
I attach it to the thicker tubes of my Cannondale just fine, but it is a bit loose on my C&V bikes. http://bikase.com/ http://mediacdn.shopatron.com/media/...jpg?1345146154 |
I've managed to avoid owning a cell phone so far.

So what?
Save the contrarian routine. It is tiresome. I am interested in this thread and you added nothing. |
I'm not sure the mfg, but I bought a mount for my Tom-Tom GPS for something like $15, and it worked great (I just got tired of "watching TV" while I rode). The same mfg made all kinds of iPhone mounts and other paraphernalia (but no hookah holders). I think I got the link when I simply googled the mount I wanted. There were hundreds of hits, but the cool company was about 8-10 deep on the results.
Since I just ordered an iPhone (company phone), I think I'll try a mount and see how these "app" things work. Instead of C25K, maybe I can get C2DD, as in Dairyland Dare. I ride with drrobwave a bit, and he's Inspector Gadget. My other riding partner is a Gen Y or whatever letter they're up to, and she goes nowhere without her screen thing. Both carry them on their person, one in the back jersey pocket in a ziploc bag, and one in a front slanted jersey pocket. |
I've used various RAM branded mounts on motorcycles, mainly for GPS, along with other electronics. I see they make a simple handlebar mount.
I have found their products to be excellent, well built, good value, maybe on the heavy side for a bicycle. |
Thanks for the positive input guys.

I use the mount from Lifeproof. The case itself is waterproof with seals and plugs for any openings, and the phone & case mount into a nice bracket that attaches to the handlebars. I really like this unit.

I haven't found the need to see my iPhone when riding. The screen switches off after a few minutes anyway.
You can set it to never turn off the screen, but then you start running into battery limitations. I've found that when running Cyclemeter, which is constantly using the GPS, with the screen off and the phone in a pocket, the battery is half drained after a few hours. I'd hate to need to call for help and have a dead battery. |
I have one of these and like it a lot. Sorry, no pics of it on my bike. It's mounted on my commuter and has been steady as a rock all summer. I also have a slightly less secure holder, and use it on a couple of different bikes. It's handy because it has a little pocket for my keys, card and glasses. I very highly recommend the first, and really only mention the second because it's easier to switch from bike to bike.
