pedals for a Trek 2300

I acquired a Trek 2300 thinking the wife might want to road ride with me. The bike is equipped with a Shimano RX-100 group. At some point in its history, the original pedals were replaced with some low end Welgo MTB pedals. I'ld like to get some pedals that would have been OEM when this piece of cycling history left the LBS.

Any suggestions as to what make-model pedals would be appropriate?

Here's a pic of an early venture into carbon frame bikes. The tubes were glued into the lugs and the forks and stays are aluminum.

Unless you're dead-set on going OEM or period-correct, I'd decide on what kind of foot retention (if any) she plans on using, and pick the appropriate pedals based on that.

Shimano made RX100 pedals, that looked very similar to the Shimano 600 pedals. Check ebay.

I dunno, but clipless pedal design (aesthetics) have not change that much that if you will get one of Look's mid range pedal set on that bike, like their "Classic" or "Max" model Keos, nobody will really notice that they're not "Period correct".
Anyway, wouldn't you want the newest pedals on your bike to make sure that they perform the best with engineering that is most likely better than the old ones so their release and retention mechanism will be safer for you.....

What does your wife want? If she isn't already a cyclist she may like these pedals until she gets comfortable on the bike. It might be painful for you watch her ride with these but she does not know the difference. Also not having to worry about a single sided pedal with a strap on it she will have less to worry about while she gets the hang of braking, shifting and balancing.

Nice looking bike.

Thanks y'all for the replies... Especially wrk101; that's exactly the info' I needed.

I should have included in the original post that when the wife said she wanted to start riding with me, she had in mind riding on the local greenways and park bike trails. She has me converting her college era 10spd into a single spd with a coaster hub. But that will be another set of threads on the fixie/single speed forum.

The reason for period correct pedals is to help move this bike along to a new owner. Someone who will appreciate its role in the advancement of bicycle development... or someone with a short inseam that wants a great training bike... or someone who has some vintage parts to trade to upgrade my mid-' 70's road bike... or someone who would trade a wheelset for my messenger bike.

I have sold quite a few bikes over the years, and I have never had a single owner request original pedals. The only requests I ever get is for a pedal that "fits better", is easier to use, or whatever. Now when I have a time capsule bike, like the 1973 World Voyageur I recently picked up that was 99% original (including pedals), I did go to the trouble of rounding up an original saddle for it. Actually, finding an original saddle was not too tough, as I took it off my other 1973 WV, one that was not 100% original anyway.......

So I do what you are considering, usually for no financial gain, but instead, to make the bike "right". Hopefully the next owner appreciates it...

A bike's gotta have pedals. If I can buy period correct pedals for less than say MKS Sylvans, all the better. So my first choice will be trying to source some used RX-100 or 600 series. It just seems the "right thing" to do.

I wasn't really planning on a restoration (unless a donor bike showed up at my door). My mid-'70's Frankenstein build is still my favorite technology (steel is real).

I hope she likes them. It would be awful if she didn't ride because of the pedals.

As it turns out, the wife's plan wasn't to join me on rode rides but to ride the local greenways and park trials. Her plan involves me converting her 10 spd mixte into a single speed with a coaster hub. I'm sourcing the needed bits & pieces now.

The TREK 2300 is consigned to the shed (w/ Shimano 600 pedals). Know anyone with a short inseam that would want a vintage carbon tube bike?
