It's the easy ones that getcha
 

Riding back from a meeting in the school library, just an easy ride with all my school stuff, no helmet, and my tires slid out from under me on a wide turn on loose dirt.

First real wreck of my bicycling adventures left me with no broken bones but lots of scrapes and blood.

Nice to finally get that first wreck out of the way, though, with no problems to the bike!

Those potholes bite too. I've gotten to the point where I wear a helmet just to go down the street. I'm just too uncoordinated.

I've had the loose dirt wrecks before. They suck. It usually takes a while until you feel comfortable speeding around a corner again. My last fall, I chipped the knuckle on my ring finger... now I can't fit my wedding ring. Heal up and continue on.

my last fall i gouged my knuckle almost to the bone... still have the scar. luckily been a year since then. i swear it's contributed to me riding my MTB a lot more tho.. after i bailed on the Ironman I stopped wanting to ride twitchy road bikes.

I was trying to avoid hitting a skunk.. i didn't get sprayed but did get pretty messed up lol..

No broken bones is good. Hope you feel better, sorry it had to happen to you.
I never got into my racing friends' "road rash badge of courage" culture.

My left side definitely took the brunt end of it, and my hands are toast. I managed to slap my face into the asphalt, too, so that's nice and swollen.

I'm sure I'll have some scarring to officially be in the "club." haha.

I sent some pictures to my family, my brother texted me this morning, "Looks like you got attacked by Wolverine... And lived."

Here's my left arm (front view) I had a tough time getting pics close up of my hands and on the underbelly of my arm. It's pretty brutal this morning.

Good to hear ur doin ok. That's quite the rash u got there. I havnt bailed hard pretty well since I got doored and broke my collar bone in the same week (haha thank god). Do you wear a helmet? I definatly should especially since imbuilding a hybrid. Cycling always has methinking that extra bit now tho, to avoid or lessen related injuries

Yea, I wear a Giro Rift. It's a nice helmet. But at the time, no, I didn't have it on. I'm lucky I didn't slam my face into the pavement any harder than I did

Yea, that will leave a nice scab. At least the bike is OK.

Man, this wreck just keeps giving me gifts.

Wrecked on Thursday--pulled a rock out of my face the size of the cotton top of a Q-tip today.

Also, ankle may be fractured. Walked fine until today--probably will end up having to go to the hospital after all; looks as if the next ride will be a ways down the road.. :(

Yeah, I pretty much wear a hat all the time now as well.

I'm just to cloddy and fragile.

It will grow back

If you can get back on the bike in a few days and no damage to the bike, I would consider that a spill. Hopefully you'll never have a crash or a wreck.

I say that , but the last five weeks have been hell. Broke my collar bone(side swiped on a curve buy a guy on a harley, a swipe and run) and have been off the bike for that long. Have actualy had to drive, used up half a tank of gas, feel like I'm getting soft. Can't ride up all the vicious hills here yet.

Funny thing is, on my trainer, I noticed that the hoods feel funny. 10 years ago I snapped the tendon on the same shoulder, and have all my brake levers on that side about 7mm higher than the other to keep the arm from hurting on long rides. Now that the arm is hanging differently again, it feels like I will have to move them back down!

Personally, I use Tegaderm to help these weepies heal w/o infection and clothes sticking to it.

Best $10 I ever spent at Walgreens.

Yeah, Nexcare is pretty worthless for normal cuts, but for stuff like this it's da bomb.

I went down for the first time in years Monday night. I kept Nexcare bandages on it for about 3-4 days, now it's down to a couple of small (less than quarter size) scabs. The more significant injury was my hip- no road rash, but I bounced off it pretty good. For a day or so it was very painful to put weight on it. That feels much better now too, but the bruising started to blossom a couple nights ago and now my hip is all purple. Ugh.

wrecked last summer, passed out(i think) on a 30mph training ride on my triathlon bike, heat related... woke up in the middle of a country road, confused,dazed and bloody. had to walk 200 feet to retrieve one of my shoes. crazy how in wrecks,bikes or automobles someone always looses a shoe.....

A friend of mine is a paramedic. He said they always lose their shoes. No matter how tightly they're tied on, they always lose their shoes.
