replacement rims

1 Attachment(s)
I noticed my 35+yr old Weinmann rear rim has developed a couple small cracks, so I guess it's time to replace both rims. The Araya has been on the front so long I forget who "loaned" it to me (but I remember the crash that took out the front Weinmann). These are 27X1-1/4 size, so of course I'ld upgrade to modern 700c/622 size. I weigh around 71kg and ride for recreation and the occasional charity event; no racing.

Any suggestions for which modern rims would look compatible with my Campy Record hubs (high flange) and fit my intended usage? http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=274784

What are the hubs? Are you looking for new wheels? or planning to rebuild? I would likely go with Sun rims, the CR18 I think is what I put on my Hetchins. Just pain shiny silver rim, w/ eyelets of course. But alot of guys here like the fancy VO offerings.

Will you brakes reach the extra 4mm to a 700c rim? That would be the first thing to check out.

I have a set of 27" Araya rims (LP20 maybe?) that might be just your ticket. The CR18s are (or were) getting harder to find in 36h drilling. Edit: looks like the 36h drilling is back, or at least the ebay sellers have 'em.

mikes.105, Heres some CR18 rims to look at: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Rims+Sun+CR18 . A search also shows they're available in 27" if you don't want to change brakes, but the best part of a 700C conversion is the dual pivot Tektro long reach brakes you can install. I put a set CR18 rims my tourer last year and have been quite pleased with them.

Really? Just bought 2 pair on ebay and a 32 and a 40. Good rims, not really vintage looking but the price is right. The Velo-Orange rims are really nice, but pricier.

The hubs are Campy Record. I'm looking to rebuild with new rims. Thanks for the "heads up" on the brake reach. I'll check that out before I settle on a 700c/622mm diameter.

Hi Ex Pres, please check the model on those Araya rims. When I searched LP20, it came up as a Shimano bottom bracket.

So lots of support for Sun CR18s and a mention of Velo Orange... I was expecting to hear of Mavic Open Pro. The LBS raves on them and laces 'em into their replacement wheelsets.

I think a lot of people like the Open Pros, so you wouldn't go wrong there. I have some Mavic MA40s on one set of wheels I ride and like them, but these are older than the Open Pros are. I seem to recall some think the stickers are kinda large on them, but I think you can remove them.

Looks like it's the SP20, in 27"

They are from a [partial] Fuji Absolute I bought a few years ago, an '88?
