Wheelset -My first question
 

So I have settle on Campy as the groupset for my first buildup,Serotta Colorado ll frameset.
Now I am looking for a wheelset that has a "classic" look. I would like silver rims and hubs but it seems that everything has black as part of the color scheme.
I am open to wheel parts component suggestions as I would not mind having my LBS do the wheel build. Also if you are able to point me toward ready builts I would appreciate that to.
As for $? I am open at this time.

Also modern vs vintage? For vintage there are always Nuovo Record hubsets on eBay, they will take a freewheel and have 126mm rear spacing generally.

For modern it is a bit tricky; Campagnolo ceased production of their silver 10 speed hubs a few years back, so its a matter of finding one of those on eBay or a forum like this or Paceline.

Silver campy hubs (Record or Chorus if you can find them and have the $) laced to some Velocity Dyads makes a nice wheel. I'm partial to the same hubs laced to Mavic Open Pro's myself. Campy also puts out some nice wheels if you don't want handbuilts.

Whats your budget? How about your weight? What tire do you want to run? Is the group you have chosen silver or black/carbon?

I'm not sure about the Dyads. They are great rims, but the smallest tire that will fit on that rim is a 28.

Those will be very close, if they fit at all on his frame.

Good point. I forget not everybody likes fat tires as much as I do... I don't really ride my road bikes at all anymore (actually just sold my ti Merckx yesterday), just cross bikes with x30 or x32 road tires when I'm on pavement.

What year's your bike??
80's you can get Mavic Module E's, they had them both in dark anodized (I think) and silver finishes.
Late 80's/early 90's. Campagnolo rims will be good as they did make their rims in silver (but with largiish Campagnolo decals, but your groupset's Campy anyway) while everyone else had mostly dark hard anodizing on their rims.

Silver Velocity A23 + Campy or White Industry hubs. If you are not ready to drop the $ on these hubs, go for the Miche Racing hubs.

Wider rims for a plush ride. Good compromise between burly and light rims.

Sapim spokes.

Don't go with Gators.

Can't speak on the spokes, but the rest sounds like a winner.

I'd consider the Velocity A23. Choose a better riding tire than a GatorSkin. No, you won't get flats, but there many better tire options.

Who says the narrowest tire that will fit on a Dyad is 28mm? It's 24mm wide at the outside. The A23 is 23mm wide at the outside and was developed specifically for typical 23mm race tires. The wide rim and narrow tire offer what is marketed as an "open tubular" feel.

These. Unless you want something funky like a 36h 4x or a 40H rear you can't get wheels built much cheaper than this, esp with Campi 10+spd hubs.

You will need a Wheels manufacturing spacer kit. BTW these are on list for Santa (again)

I only say Sapim because Lee (childhooddreams) sells them for dirt cheap (thanks to the colonel for telling me about him a while back).

I picked these Mavic SUP Reflex rims up for a 90'ish bike build-up I just completed. They are mated to Campy Veloce hubs, which I really wanted, since the whole bike is Campy. They look great, and seem to perform very well so far. I'm told that the "SUP" designation is only used on Mavic's higher end rims. These rims came complete, with a Veloce 9 speed cassette for $189 on the bay. But I had to be patient, as the silver Campy hubs are tough to find -

I have some Vento G3's in silver I would part with.
Polished hubs, high flange, silver rims.

I am in the same boat as you Tom. I am working on an all Campy build and MUST have shiny silver hubs and rims. As mentioned you may have a hard time finding exactly what you want.
I put a WTB on Paceline and almost found what I wanted, most replies were either too used or just too many $$$. I ended up buying Campy hubs that will take 9/10/11 speed cassette and now can choose the rim I want. I'm not really considering weight, just aesthetics.

But those are not Campy hubs.

Which was a big mistake on the part of Electra, and one of the reasons why I do not already have set. They will work with the spacer kit from wheels though.

I wonder if you could replace the freehub body with the Camapnolo freehub body from VO.
