Need help with Campagnolo 9-speed

I'm setting up a 9-speed Campagnolo Chorus grouppo on my De Rosa Primato and have questions regarding chains/cassettes.

First, I'd like to ask about using Shimano/SRAM cassettes with Campy 9-speed drivetrains. If anyone has done this or has advice as to the best way to pull this off, I'd be very interested. I have a set of Campy wheels to use with the bike but I'd like to be able to use Shimano wheelsets with the bike too.

Second, which chain would be best suited for this drivetrain? Ideally it would be a campy chain but KMC and SRAM chain's are far cheaper and more readily available to me. If anyone has experience running non-campy chains, especially with Shimano cassettes, please let me know!

Any other advice regarding Campagnolo 9-speed stuff is greatly appreciated!

Do you have Campy 9s spacers?

Or, have you seen THIS page?

I have but that page doesn't answer much of my questions. It does lead me to believe what I'm trying will work but real world examples would be more helpful.

Campy Chorus 9s = old pull
So, from the table, if you use old9 shifter and old9 RD, it ain't gonna work.
Also from the table, if you use a new9 (but it'll have to be a lower group than Chorus) shifter with an old9 RD, you're good to go. But no more Campy spaced cassettes.

So, if you want to keep all Chorus + Sh/SR rear wheel/cassette and save Campy compatibility, you're gonna need Campy 9 spacers to put between your Shimano cogs. The cog width difference is small enough that you can ignore it. Or, IIRC American Classic made some cassettes to fit Campy shifting on Shimano wheels. I don't think they're in production anymore.

As far as chains, I picked up some Campy C9 chains pretty cheap, and am even using one on a 7s Uniglide DA group right now.

You can run campy 9 with a shimano 9 cassette. The spacing is close enough that it works just fine. I've done on it 2 different occasions. People riding my bike were hard pressed to tell the difference.

I was confused before, so I stopped reading this thread. Good luck, though.

I've got an Ultegra 6600 crank and rd with a shimano 9s cassette being controlled by chorus 10s shifters. I think I'm using a 10s chain. I've found them to need a little extra adjusting now and then but otherwise the system works great for my daughter.

My bike has 2005 record shifters, crank and rd with a da cassette and kmc chain. And a jtek shiftmate. Works flawlessly.

I use an OLD 9-speed campy shifter with a NEW 9-speed Campy rear derailleur and it works fine with my Shimano 8-speed rear wheel. You lose one shifting position. If you only have a NEW Campy 9-speed shifter, as it shows in the "Campagnolo & Sram mechs" chart, you will need the pre-2001 9-speed rear derailleur to work with a 9-speed Shimano rear set-up. Clear as mud? ;)
