Paramount1973, what stem converter is that, and how do you like it? Thinking about going that route with a couple of bikes, but am still kinda on the fence.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Raleigh Record Ride
My upright and comfortable and quick road bike is finished for now. New paint, likely bright red may come later. To coin an old adage it "rides like the wind".
Its been mostly put together from the parts bin and was purchased from a yard sale over a year ago.
EVO alloy seatpost, Serfas saddle, Uno alloy bars, Bell water bottle cages etc.

This is what I had in mind at the start of this thread I think. I'm going to go this direction but with a much more humble frame, a Raleigh Comp GS, but stand tall with front and rear Campy SR for a 2x6 set up controlled with IRD thumb shifters. Good bit of R-D on the saddle, I'll skip the Pro and right to the Flyer
Thanks for the post Dawes-man!

Here are a couple shots of my "mule", the first bike I built from the BB bearings on out. It started as a '84 LeTour Luxe CL project that had been abused & badly neglected. I've been a bit reluctant to share, as there's likely a detail or two here that most of you guys would change, but this thing works great as my comfy "go-to". Might inspire another ol fart to face the wind without shame.

Good question!
And that's the main thing. We all build our machines to please ourselves. What you've done is fine by me and I love the colour.

So, after collecting the Nitti North Road bars and stem, IRD Thumb shifters Campy SR Derailleurs, Bluemels Club specials and a Brooks Flyer......... I spied a Hetchins Frame and thought Hmmmmmmmm, ( Dawes man is a bad influence on me apparently) bought it and spent the spring with it sorting it out on a frame table . So now, I've got a pile of parts and two frames. A Raleigh Comp GS and a Hetchins. Couldn't decide what to do, so since Summer had arrived, I put the tools down and when for a ride. I know, I know; Pics or I didn't happen!
The original Raleigh Frame

And the Hetchins....which would get Campy Gran Sport mechs and a Williams double ring

Can't decide, so they are both hanging on hooks in the shop for now.

Yeah, well… sorry!
Very nice indeed. That looks like it might be an early Vade Mecum but I can't really make out the lugs 1950s? Love the flam red…
I think red is probably the colour best suited to the flam treatment.
I look forward to seeing that when you build it. And pics of the lugs in the meantime

It is indeed a "55 Vade Mecum #6 Tour of Britain. Which makes me think I should stay the course and build it close to it's original configuration....but your Hetchins upright is so cool.

and 84(ish) torpado.... swap out the bar for velo orange postino, tektro city lever (from velo orange) and a pair of velo orange touring pedals courtesy holiday76
all the original campy shifters, ofmega crank and univeral brakes.
basket by wald....have to carry things and a bit counter chic
total fun to ride.... shift only rarely mostly treat it as a single speed

Passage project
This is my just completed Schwinn Passage project, intended as a somewhat fast, kinda light, very upright day tripper.
1986 25" Passage, all stock except:
Pyramid Northroad alloy bars
ChinLee stem
Dia-Compe tourist levers
Serfas RX seat
Sugino AS crankset, 42t inner, 52t outer converted to guard
Parts bin no name pedals, rebuildable and wide enough for Big American Shoes
Shimano UN55 BB
KMC X8.99 chain
Shimano MF-TZ21 7 speed freewheel
Suntour LePree RD
Suntour Power Thumb Shifter
Tanaka smooth aluminum fenders
Castrol ATF bottle mud flap
Kenda K40 gum walls, 27 x 1-3/8
Wheelsmith stainless spokes (Thanks, FB)
Greenfield kickstand, every bike should have one
While it took way longer and cost way more than I wished, the bike is sweet ride. And the fenders were a royal PIA to install.

Here my 2 light, fast and upright bikes, a 73 Schwinn Super Sport that I bought new in 1975 and did a Restomod on it a couple of years ago, and a 86 Schwinn Peloton that I have modified for upright comfort.

If I ride upright it means I'm riding locally, usually on a commuter or errand bike. This is my Jeunet, my daily commuter, which clocks in at 26lb as shown, minus the saddlebag:

It used to be more upright when I had the bars inverted, but I returned them to their intended orientation and have been enjoying the more aggressive angle.
My newest experiment with upright and [not so] light is my Shogun 650B conversion, which clocks in around 29 lb as shown, minus the saddlebag:

I was going to start a new thread "Drop bars to flat conversion" but this came up. So here is mine, a Japanese market model Fuji - Stratos. It was white with gold trim and originally an 8 speed. Last configuration was 2x10 with brifters.
Found a 10 speed Ultegra flat bar shifter on ebay but no left shifter so I put the DT friction shifter for the front.
Stripped the frame and fork due to underlying rust issues. Took it to a local auto paint shop and had them mix up some purple.

When I first bought it

Third incarnation of my International. First build was kind of true to the original spec, then it became more rando-ish with a modern 2x10 drivetrain. All that moved to a different frame allowing me to build a variant of my 66 Raleigh Sports commuter in a much livelier format. Sturmey XSF8 internal gears with various townie bits. It's a lot of fun!
