We got an old bicycle a few years ago from a neighbour who had passed away. Just been using it for shopping thus far, but a few days ago a guy was staring at it, when I parked it at the supermarket. He said that the RIH is quite a special bicycle and that it was a probably a sixties or seventies model. I'm now trying to figure out how old it is, but can't seem to find the serial number. It's a black RIH, pretty run down (still rides fine!) has a blue RIH logo and a "Een Covee Product" sticker on the saddle pipe. I looked at the forum on where to find the serial number, but it is not on the locations shown here. Any ideas?

Found the serial-number at last, right at the top of the saddle-pipe, but it is not very clear I'm afraid, it starts with 71 then something I cannot discern, but looks a bit like a 9 and then followed by 31.

Compay that looks just like my bike! N. 8712, look at post #223 in this thread.

I looked at the parts of the bicycle:
- Brakes: Weinmann 610 Vainqueur 999
- Rear Derailleur: Allvit
- Front Derailleur/ Gear shift levers: Hw-et (?) (have difficult reading the logo)
- Saddle: Brooks
- Handle bar is regular model, looks newer
- Crankset: Sugino 52 Japan
- Brake levers: Saccoon
- Handlebar (ITM) (Looks newer)

Well, let's do some more posting then. ;)

The Weinmann brakes and Huret transmission (the shift levers are probably Huret as well) seem correct for a a late sixties or early seventies Cové-built RIH and are probably original. Sounds like the entire cockpit has been replaced at some point in time. I would have expected a Titan stem and Maes/Kint bars with Weinmann levers. The Sugino cranks may have replaced a set of Nervars.

I got myself a new project (unintentionally), while buying some stuff for another bike! The seller started talking about this old RIH bike he got from his father and wanted to restore and repaint but didn't have time for, so I asked him to show it to me. The paint is not that bad as he was saying it was, I thought, and the frame appeared to be my size. So I ended up buying this frame from him, even thought that the chain stays are a bit bent, I believe. It seems more like a low-end model though: no derailleur hanger, unknown dropouts, braze-ons on the frame

Nice find. I'd say it's a Fongers-built RIH supersports bike from 1967. They came with either a rear dérailleur or a Sturmey Archer three-speed hub. Here's one that was for sale a while back:

Yes, I checked it on the website of Fongers and it seems that you're right, [MENTION=173992]non-fixie[/MENTION]. K stands for 1967. There is another one in a much better condition currently for sale around Amsterdam, by the way. The guy I bought the frame from had another RIH Sport (same supersports model, I believe) in red, which originally according to him came with Titan stem and handlebar (racing version). But I think that that was just a later modification.

My latest find, a nice Ivory painted Rih with just a touch of red in the paint. Probably late nineties build.

Apparently it's an anti-spam measure that keeps the number of unwanted posts to an acceptable level, and the mods from flipping. I'm sure you can find a few interesting threads that might be improved by a comment or two. ;)

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing your bike. The serial number seems to indicate a birth date close to 1960. An interesting period that spawned beautiful bikes that we don't see very often. In those days the market for high end racing and touring bikes was limited to professionals and very serious (and wealthy, I might add) amateurs.

I think I have about 5 posts in different areas now, as soon as it allows pics I will show you! The frame is a grey color with red and blue pinstripes around the lugs.. I would love to know more about the frame and its origins.. also, i have a wheel set with RIH branded hubs (logo in script) stamped on 3 peice style hubs.. I cant find any info on these anyplace and would love input from other collectors!
