Tire size question

I recently picked up two old Fuji's that I am working on. One of them is black with the seat post decal in red. Thinking maybe some red tape and tires of some sort.

The rims on this one are 27 x 1 1/8. I am not seeing a bunch of tires out there in that size although I just started looking. The other Fuji came with 27 x 1 1/4" rims of which I have already replaced the tires with new.

Being an 1/8" difference, would it be asking for trouble to actually mount 27 x 1 1/4" tires on the 1 1/8" rims?

What's your opinion?

No problem. Go for it.

You will have no problem at all. I, personally, do prefer 1 1/8" for looks and performance but they are best only if mounted on appropriate rims, such as the ones one of the OP's bikes.

As for availability, it is rare that a set cannot be found on Ebay. In fact, a quick search I conducted just now produced 100+ listings. Go for the Panaracers Pasela - good 27" tire, in my opinion.

I second that. I was getting flats all the time because most of my riding is urban. I got the Pasela TourGuards and havent had a flat in over 2000 miles, and I've run over some things and hit some potholes I would really rather have avoided. I also like that the gumwalls look like the original tires.

I have the Vittoria Zaffiro in 27x1-1/8 on my Fuji... on both sets of 27x1-1/4 and 27x1-1/8 wheels. I prefer the 1-1/8 tires over the 1-1/4 because they're higher pressure tires, so rolling resistance is lower... On the 1-1/8" wheels I had just gotten last month (used), they had old 27x1" tires on them!

Two inexpensive 27 x 1-1/8" (28-630) tires are the Kenda K36 and CST C-638. Most LBS have access ro Kenda and/or CST. However, as previously noted, the rims will accommodate 27 x 1-1/4" tires without any issues.
