[Need info] Old American Classic Titanium BB
Hello all,
I got this old used american classic BB (ti spindle, total weight a bit above 150g)
Everything is in great cond and i'm looking forward to installing it (soon).
However, I had one question. This is a dual lockring setup (for precise chainline ajusting).
BUT, here the lock rings seem to be mismatched.
One is black *steel* the other is silver *alloy*
Bikepro lists an earlier version of the BB with dual black alloy lockrings...
What is the stock lockring config for this exact model ?
Also for some weird reason, the black lockring threads on the cup marked "LEFT", but I can't get it to thread on a standard english threaded left-side cup... this doesn't seem to make any sense, actually.
anyway, the BB looks like it will install just fine and for 40$ this seems like a legit deal.
but i was looking to shave a last few grams just for the heck of it by replacing the steel lockring with an alloy one.
i just don't know where to look for this odd part...
any help is appreciated
thanks !
(yes I did send an email to AC, awaiting reply...)

this is the cup marked as "1.37X24 TPI RIGHT"
is it actually the cup that goes drive side on the bike ?
haven't got anything to test at the moment

Yet another issue with using that bottom bracket is the need for the bb's threading to be tapped to a greater depth than may be done to production frame's from the factory.
The alloy lockrings can be breakage-prone when being secured tight enough to prevent loosening during use, possibly why one has gone missing.
Lastly, ti spindles are flexy and sometimes cause creaking at the crankarm taper.

i just can't wait to see if I can use this thing correctly
I do have my doubts it'll stay in place. might have to invest in some locktite.
but hey i got it for $40...
i weigh 135# so i'm probably too light to warp the TI spindle...

hmmm.. well of course AC told me they couldn't be of any help.
Clearly this is not Phil or Paul !
or even White Industries for that matter...
by the way, AC's current offering is absolutely terrible IMHO. and clearly none of it seems to be made in the USA anymore.
